Inch and a half cut enough to ruin brand new tire?

Gassing up last week and picked up a piece of scrap metal in gas station lot. It left a gash about 1.5 inches though the middle of the tire (on the center crossing the tread). Took it to Firestone (close proximity to my house) and they said it was too big to patch or repair. Are they serious or just lazy? I will be ****ing pissed if its ruined. Tire has less than 4k miles on it.

it really depends on what it looks like on the inside. even if its patched, it may chunk out the tread right there.

The tires were new when I purchased the 4runner.

Go to the dealer the tire itself should have warranty in it.

Mine has warranty up to 65,000 miles. Although I've not tried it yet and I heard they put a lot of "technicalities" to evade replacing it for free.
