Inclinometer

I've been thinking for a while that the FJ Cruiser dash mounted temperature/compass/inclinometer would fit on top if the 5th gen dash. Both the FJ and 4rnr have a flat dash, and am wondering what would need to be wired to get it installed.

I realize that my trail already has a digital compass and temp gauge, but the inclinometer and real compass would be cool. My buddy has one on his surf and it's a pretty cool gadget.

Plus wiring that thing up would be a PITA. a guy on a Tacoma forum did it and it looked like a wiring nightmare. plus the size of it is obtrusive, imo

I figured it might be a pain to wire...and you are right, they are big and obtrusive.

my FJ didnt come with it...and i wanted it, till i found out how big of a pain it would be to take the dash apart and everything else to put it together an in.....and how expensive.

Haven't seen anyone add anything to the display itself before.

The FJ ones are very expensive and not a simple install, look for something aftermarket that you like enough. There are a few cheap ones on amazon, not as cool as the FJ setup but unless you have a lot of time, money, and skills, a much better path.

I've had the app for a couple years now. I just put the phone in a uni-fit phone bracket on top of the dash.

Probably not. The app has to be "zeroed" with the vehicle - i.e. phone - stopped on a level surface. Once zeroed it functions normally until you turn it off. The app works around one of the phone's 90 degree axis's's's. It doesn't like to be zeroed at an odd angle.

This is the easy way. I have the same one. Hardest part is deciding where to mount it on the dash. If you ever get your vehicle to 45 degrees you're already rolling over.

For leveling your rig try getting a more accurate 15 degree gage. All types are available on Amazon.

Agreed, just found a generic photo for the levogage. I have mine mounted to the very top of my windshield with a GoPro mount. Doesn't block my view at all.

Mine is mounted to the fold down door in the lower center console, used for parking as level as I can for the RTT. Once that is close I switch to the phone app, works every time.

Inclinometers

The Desert Creep reminded me of inclinomters as I always use to have one on my sailboats. I think I'll get two, if I can find them. One for going up and down mountains, and one for heeling on some of the offroads up here in British Columbia. Gr-reat idea! - Ted

Can't remember the limits for side rollover on my FJ, but the upper limit on my
Inclinometer was 30 degrees so that's where I set my app to danger alarm.
