inconsiderate people!

Im always carefull about where I park, but im not sure if it matters. It seems like everytime I wash my truck I always find a new dent or scuff. The latest one is a fairly deep gash on the top side of the passenger rear wheel well. Of course with the dark blue color you can see everything.

LS1JAY, I had a '89 firebird formula with a 305 while I was in HS, that was a fun car. I wish I still had it, but it wasnt reliable enough for a college car (according to my parents).

Don't worry, Uneek, I don't have a dog. I do however have a toddler. I can put those dirty diapers to good use I guess. :p

I always try to park next to nicer cars than mine. That or a nice 4runner. I know those owners are just as conscious about parking as we are. I give them as much space as possible and they seem to acknowledge that somehow by parking the same way. I also keep an eye out for mini-vans. Too often or not I see moms and kids hop out and bang the front doors into other cars. As much as possible, I usually stay in the truck if I'm just waiting for my wife and kids.

Parking next to lower cars is also an advantage. With the stock running boards or tubes, the door that potentially may hit you will most likely hit the boards or tube steps first not even reaching the lower cladding.

Ah, that's right. I sometimes forget sedans' rear doors. The contact point of the door edge to make first contact is much higher than the front doors. My SR5 got dinged that way.

As an aside, I always try to find a space next to a concrete wall or a corner stall. I always park nose in first. With a concrete wall to my side (or pillar) and a wall in front of me, the impact points are reduced. Granted, the rear is exposed but given the choice, I'd rather have a ding in the rear bumper than anywhere on the front end. Also, I ALWAYS fold my mirrors IN. No matter how much ample space I have on my sides. I think it's a good habit. You never know when someone will brush by with a strap or handbag and catch your mirrors. I even fold them in my own garage only because my wife and teenage daughter are oblivious when they walk by both trucks.

Good call on the side view mirrors, that sounds like a good habit to get into. I never really thought about it the way you do with the front/rear bumper getting bashed.. I might start pulling into spots rather than backing into them. I agree with the fact that I'd rather have a dent on the rear than the front!
 
I'd be worried about wearing out the detents in the mirror folding it back that much. It's only meant to give way when bumped into to save it from breaking, it's not really meant as a constantly functioning folding mirror. That's why they called them "breakaway mirrors".

Unfortuantely though, my wife tested the "breakaway" feature of our Acura's passenger side mirror on my Snap-On toolbox. It live up to it's name-sake. It really did "break away" LOL. After about 20 minutes of looking, I finally found the glass mirror part that was missing out of the housing, which was broken completely off. The glass mirror, under the tension, had shot out of the housing, over the roof of the car, and wedged itself between the rear hatch and the spoiler!!



As far as door dings, I agree with Uneek, it's all about RESPECT. I respect everyone's vehicles around me. If I think my door might blow open or if it's too close for one of the detents in the door hinge to hold it before it contacts the car beside me, I will put my hand on the outer edge of the door and keep it there, so my fingers will be between the cars. This way, if there is any contact, it's just a knuckle touching their car, so it does not damage it. I expect the same courtesy and RESPECT back from others, but most dont care. Those are the peckerheads I will make regret the day they disrespected my property. I dont care if it's an old beat up jalopy, they will know I was there, you can rest assured of that. The dent I leave is proportionate to how crappy the car looks. Real nice car, just enough dent to get their attention and piss em off. Rust bucket, make the dent at least a half inch deep or more, and crease it. The loss of paint on the edge of my door I consider a battle scar LOL.



Oh and the idea of smooshing the dog turd in the cowl vent... yeah that would work too, but would work better if your dog had diarrhea, and you could just pour some liquid shit down there, then piss on it to really stir it up. But somehow, just the simple pleasure of knowing they stuck their nose picking hand into a tightly packed wad of dogshit under their door handle would be instant gratification. Would be a day or two before they'd trust that hand enough to hold onto a taco or sandwich...... :p
 
I've often thought of putting a big thick sharpie pen in my car to write a nice message over the driver's side windshield thanking them for pissing me off.

You know, something polite like

"Thanks for parking so close to me " or

"Thanks for the new dent in my door"

Though sharpie pens are supposed to be permanent, there is some stuff on teh market that will remove it. But what a pain in the ass to drive around w/ that message on the windshield! Regardless of whether it was a rusted P.O.S. or not, the offending driver would at least be really annoyed.
 
I have heard a little piece of cut up raw shrimp in the air vent really smells bad too. I have written my name in the snow before too on the windshield, of course I had to stand on the hood.

When you freaking open the door, put your hand over the edge of the door when you exit your vehicle.

Lots of people don't even think they are doing anything wrong. They open the door and let it kiss your door. Especially those that have baby carriers.

I try not to ever park on the street...of course it's inevitable.

The idea of writing on someone's windshield with a sharpie wouldn't do much. If they were smart, they would go to staples and buy a dry erase marker (for white boards) for a few dollars. If you trace over a sharpie with a dry erase marker, and then rub off the new mark, the sharpie disappears.

:iagree: Sharpies are not very permanent at all, might last longer than the normal marker, but that's about it.
