I wonder how much fuel brand and grade make a difference. I have heard Arco is crap, I always use Chevron regular.

I fill up with Shell, Chevron, Arco, and other no-name brands. I don't see any difference with performance or MPG.

I haven't noticed if the tanker truck that fills up each gas station is labeled as belonging to that brand?
I wonder, has anyone followed an unbranded tanker truck to see if it only stops and refills no-name gas stations, or maybe make stops at brand name ones, too.

This is actually a common misconception. Higher octane does not give you better mileage if the car does not require a higher octane for timing or compression, like the 3.4l.

Correct. There are very many documentaries on that.
Octane is not a measure of fuel quality.
I filled up with 85 Octane on my Lake Powell and my Route 66 trips and I didn't see any difference.

Maybe different locations do it differently, but up here it's all the same gas. A fuel truck pulls in to the terminal and the driver punches in a code per who his client is for that shipment. That client's additives gets added to the fuel as it goes into the truck.

Now the difference is, how does the client maintain their tanks? If they aren't maintained and contaminates and water get in, well that's going to end up in your tank.

Gasoline is a fungible product. With few exceptions, the fuel is all the same with the exception of the additive package that is added just prior to transport to the local retailer, as mentioned above.

Therefore, it all depends on:
1) How to accurately the driver/terminal people and equipment pick/handle additives,
2) How accurately the driver delivers certain additives to proper brand gas station,
3) Maintenance of gas station tanks, terminal, truck tanks.

No guaranty on any of the above. However, I'm guarantied to spend less money on gas and still go places with my 31-YO truck if I don't pay for brand name.
I just add fuel injector cleaner to my empty tank before refilling for a long trip, and/or with oil change. I am sold on STP fuel injector cleaner because in 1987, my then new Nissan Sentra all of a sudden would hesitate when I step on the gas. I reverted to OEM spark plugs, thinking that my Bosch Platinum plugs may not be good for the car. No effect. I poured STP fuel injector cleaner into near empty tank before refilling. Problem went away, and never came back.

Well I just filled up this morning after my gas light came on at 235.7 miles. Put almost 14 gallons in at $3.29 gal. (SoCal prices). My truck returned a respectable 17.52 mpg for mostly city driving with lots of stop and go traffic. 80% city/20% Highway...Thanks LA. Overall I’m extrely happy with my results. More mpg and my truck seems to run a whole lot smoother. This next tank I’m gonna try to have a super light foot to see if there’s any difference. I also forgot to mention that I’m running 265/75 R16 Hankook Dynapro ATMs at 40 psi. 2in lift all around and a roof top basket.

My 2000 4Runner on 285's gets absolutely HORRIBLE mpg's, around 160 miles per tank. Granted, I've got 33's, but when I had 265's on there, it wasn't any better. I've changed wires, plugs, filters, & still no positive yield in the mpg department. I'm going to order a can of this & just see what happens. It's a secondary vehicle, & a regear would be great, but I'm not ready to do that yet. So 15 mpg would be a massive improvement.

That's pretty good for you truck's specs.
Yes, a lighter foot would surely help. I think the truck consumes most gas when accelerating and/or when RPM is higher.

Me too...With the small tank and the crappy mileage, I always feel like I have range anxiety.

I did buy a can of the B44 stuff, and will try it out on my long drive next week. Can't wait to get my 19 mpg .

I've done a lot of crap to get better mpg's. It'll be interesting to follow this for a while. I'm just used to 13/14mpg right now.

I run same size tires (wranglers) with a 1.5 BL and don't see the light turn on until at least 265-270 (almost 294k miles on original drivetrain) and I don't use b44. I sometimes use startron enzyme fuel treatment ( https://www.amazon.com/Star-Tron-En...id=1518269693&sr=8-2&keywords=startron+marine)

but it only costs about $30 for a quart which lasts thru 512 gallons of gas (about 32 fillups). Its really a bargain compared to everything else. Luck. :cowboy:

Pre Lift and 33’s I was getting up to 280-300 on a tank. I am currently on my first tank of fuel after my lift and 33’s. I’m at half tanks at 154 miles.. I know this suddenly drops but I think I’ll achieve mid 200’s. I would try this product but feel as if I don’t even need it as I am getting great MPG already. Before I read this thread I thought my fuel was ok at best, now I feel much better.

I recently picked up a 97 T4R with 145K on the clock. First couple of tanks I was getting 15ish mpg mixed driving. In hopes of improving this, I ran a bottle of Marvel Mystery Oil through the fuel tank. After two full tanks since adding this product, I averaged 17ish mpg. I am refraining from using exact numbers because I am not sure of the exact discrepancy between stated mileage and actual mileage due to running larger than stock tires (Currently running 265 70 17r). I believe there is roughly a 7% difference between stated and acutal mileage. Just ordered new spark plugs, wires, air filter, and fuel filter. Hoping to see a little more improvement after installing these.

I'm right there with ya on 33's (255/85's). Granted the supercharger and my driving habits don't help but I get about 12mpg most tanks.

I've kept tabs on just about every time I fill up. Before BK 44K, I was consistently between 15-16 mpg. My gas light would go on after 215 miles with my usual driving habits. I fill up only with Chevron or Shell regular unleaded. I drive almost 20k a year so every mpg counts. Yeah, its no Prius but no one looks cool driving one of those.

I posted my experience with ArchOil and some guy on here (IBALLENGINEER) gave me grief on my experience with the product. So, in honor of "IBALL ENIGINEER" I take the following position;

1. How in the hell do you really know the product works?
2. Can you provide the forum statistical data and charts to back up your experience?
3. Your first hand experience is irrelevant unless you provide me (OCD-IBALLENGINEER) with concrete data I consider valid....
4. To hell with your opinion. It is only valid if I (IBALLENGINEER) consider it to be because of course, I am of course an "engineer".

Please know all of the above questions are sarcastic. After having "IBALLENGINEER" trash my first hand experiences with a new product, I just thought it appropriate to point out his "assholishness" in not dragging you through the same mud he drug me through on my personal experiences with ArchOil......

I'm getting 16.8 mpg average on stock height and tires. This is driving about 60/40 % city/highway. I occasionally use Lucas Injector cleaner, but I don't know if it really helps.
