Independent Use of High Beam Mod

So I did the fog mod which I'm pretty happy with, other than the fact that when i have my lights off and flash my high beams the lows beams also flash. not good considering i have HIDs. I would also really like to be able to use my high beams without my lows(independently). does anyone know if there is a mod for independent high beams? this is a very important mod for us who have HIDs in our low beams and have done the Fog Mod.

I'm not sure I understand why it's a problem that your low beams also flash.
Is it an issue with the HIDs not being made to handle the quick off/on? Or are you concerned that you are flashing with to much light?

I feel I'm missing some info here. :shrug:

If you did the step of this mod that includes splicing the wires in the steering column, you should undo that. From the factory, only the high beams flash, but when you splice the two wires in the steering column it causes the low beams and high beams to flash together.

you want extra light when you do this mod...if done correctly, ALL your lights on the front turn on when you flip to your high beams...including your low beams working at the same time...that is the intent...or at least was my intent in doing so...also, to have my fogs turn on and stay on when my high beams are engaged...I too feel I'm missing something...

Like me, he doesn't want the low beams to flash on and off when he wants to flash his high beams because the low beams are HID bulbs. The splice inside the steering column ties the low and high beams together... if your low beams are on, they'll stay on when you turn on your high beams (unlike like the factory stock condition)... if your low beams are off and you flash your high beams, both low and high beams flash together. The mods under the hood take the fog lamps out of the circuit that turns them off when the high beams are turned on and gives them "keyed" power.

you might be right, i may just have to undo it and live with the fogs turning off when i use the high beams, but wouldn't it be nice if the lows and highs ran independent of each other?

what if in the steering column you could tie the highs into the fogs instead?
or something lol. there's gotta be another way.

yes, its not good for HIDs. it will prematurely burn your bulbs and balasts out.

Ah... I forgot that Part 2 of the mod was to keep the fog lights on with the high beams. I just went back and read J.A.'s mod. Now I'm wondering if the low beams kick off when the high beams come on in the stock configuration.

i think they don't, not sure though. my memory is quite fogged, but if they did then it would make more sense to keep the mod.
it would be nice to separate the function of the highs from the lows all together, and be able to run them independently..
