I wouldn't say they are more efficient and require less power. The speakers will still draw in the same rated power, it's just you will require a different power output from your amp.
Example: 100 watts @ 2 OHMS, is the same as 50 watts @ 4 OHMs.
However, there are also different wiring conditions, such as running them in series and parallel, in the case of running 2 ohm parrallel you will create a 1 OHM resistance which might create some problems with your amp. (being stable @ 1 ohm) However in most cases, I am going to assume that you're going to run a single channel to each speaker (thats what I would do) its going to cost a little more, but it will be better.
