Infinity worth it?

I'm on a similar boat. I had been looking at getting some Infinity Kappas off eBay to install once I got my Scion HU. However, I'm holding off for now because I found that the stock speakers are actually pretty decent when matched with the Scion HU.
However, the Infinity's are some of the best speakers I've ever heard and it is definitely tempting to get them. I would wait until you install your HU. If you still want an immediate upgrade to the sound, you really can't go wrong with Infinity Kappas. The Reference series is good too, but Kappas take the medal.

It's been a while since I really researched car audio, but all I ran in my '95 Blazer were Infinity Kappas (something like 8 or 10 of em) and as I remember, they were pretty power hungry. I'd do a bit more research to make sure the Scion HU can send them adequate juice. If not, you may have to add a separate amp.

you can't go wrong with infinities, especially not the kappas! i have references in my corolla and they're great! i plan on getting kappa components for my 4runner with an additional amp to power them. they are power hungry, but it's only for the sake of sound quality. some people complain that infinities may not give enough bass, but that's what subs are for. infinities give you less/no distortion at high levels of volume.

well which ones sound better to you?
when it comes down do speakers its all a matter of opinion.my favs are MB Quartz and i also like Bostons but bostons may be a little too dominant on the highs for some people.
i cant tell you what sounds good to you, so i would recomend bringing in a favorite cd of yours and listen to both and then decide.

agreed. Infinity's do suck a lot of juice...but that's not a bad thing as stated above.
Add an amp, and if you want more bass, but don't want to sacrifice the cargo space, get a Kenwood wOOx to place under the seat. Not the baddest sub on the planet, but it does give you good, tight bass — which I personally prefer to the boomy, drown-everything-out bass that you hear coming out of some of these tricked out cars these days!

I had top of the line Alpine componenent speakers in my old truck, they sounded better than stock but not great. In my Rover, I had Infinity Refrence speakers all around and they sounded amazing - just imagine how good the Kappas would sound. I had them all amped, 75w to each speaker. The Kappa series takes about the same power as the refrence, maybe just a little more. Max RMS on these are 90w, but anywhere from 75 - 85 is just fine. When I put my Infinity Perfect 10" sub in my 4Runner, it sounds awesome.
That being said, I'm sure they would also sound great with the stock head unit amp. They don't need an aftermarket amp to sound good, but they will sound better with one. Whatever you do will be better than stock.

I think you would need to get an amp if you want to run those Kappas.
If you aren't going to get an external amp, maybe take a look at the Inifinity Reference speakers. They don't cost as much, and sound good running from just the HU. I have 6 1/2 reference speakers running off my Alpine HU in my 99 4runner.
Or, stick to the Polk's that you want if you like the sound.
