Info on new 4 runner?

Hello,

I have a couple of questions on the new 4 Runner. My objective on this vehicle is to be able to get up a fairly steep road with a bunch of washed out pot holes and rocks. Can't get up there with snow. Low renge is needed for sure on the white stuff. I have a 80 series Land Cruiser with a blown head gasket 2 weeks ago. I have gotten out of some sticky situation over the years, but my 4 wheeling days banging on rocks and getting stuck is over. I know nothing about the new 4 Runners. Can someone help? I have been out of the loop on the latest (sometimes the simple manual locking hubs works) 4wd technology. Do they all come with locking diffs. I talk to the sales guy today, he had no clue what I was talking about. keep saying about the power will get you through anything. He does know about the posi rear end. I am sure he doesn't know why is there. Thanks,

I am not sure what they offer, I thought they come with locking diffs and transfer case. I am confused. There are three models, SR5, sport, and limited, right? Wht's the power like between the V8 and the 6? I am looking for real world driving experience. I had a couple of their mid 80s truck that i use to beat up out in the desert. for highway, they were under power with any kind of a load on them going over the pass. I am sure the V8 isn't like that, but the 6?

Will the 4Runner get you up a washed out hill with rocks and pot holes? Absolutely!!

Will it get you up the same if it's got snow on it? Absolutely!!

Will we do all of the research on said 4Runner for you? Absolutely Not!!

While I'm one of the first here to try to keep the search police at bay it seems you've done no research at all concerning the Toyota you are interested in. I suggest you research at bit more then when you have some specific questions about the year and model T4R you've chosen come on back and I'm sure you'll get the help you need.

Thanks for the links. I am new to these forum things on the net, so I am struggling a bit with all the info or simply, where to go and post a questions. Thankfully my workman told me to look here. What's a search policy?

According to Toyota, They only offer the locking diff in the Limited? The trail has A-TRAC only. How important is that with A-TRAC. I have no idea what A-TRAC is and how it works? I am out of the loop with car and trucks for the past 18 or so years. 94 was the last year I went out on a serious back country trip in the Sierra with my 80. During my days of playing in the dirt, we had locking front, rear, and center locking diffs. No fancy computer stuff. I bought my Land Cruiser with center lock diffs knowing it will come handy in sticky situations. Does the A-TRAC automatically lock all of the front mid and rear diffs? You select it and the computer does it for you? The salesman was not experience. He knew very little or nothing about 4WDs. he couldn't answer my questions. I know for a fact that many of the newer trucks have gotten soft and are not what they once were in terms of getting out deep into the country and bring you back in one piece. The chevy Blazer of the old days will go up the hill to our cabin in 3' snow without too much effort. I have to yank a now Tahoe 4WD drive up there with my 80 last year. What a disappointment. Great in the city, but not in the back country. The 4 Runners are not like that are they with all of their computers control stuff?
