Info on OME lifts

So i've been looking at some OME lift stuff and wondering why the new changes in the part numbers for the FJ lifts and 4R lifts. I was hoping to do a 3/2 OME lift so i started talking to a guy at ARB USA. Here is what he had to say, we had previously talked about how the 4R is close to the Prado, but is still a bit different. This helps explain why one of the guys on here did the 884 + TT spacer and got "damn near 5 inches" in his words, and people on the FJ forum putting 2" 895's and getting almost 3". So they have changed the part numbers and added different shocks. Also the new 4R is +/- 500lbs (KDSS, 3rd seat, leather, bigger gas tank, lots of little things) heavier than the FJ or previous 4Runner. So the shocks have been redesigned with that in mind.

Let me also say that he was super helpful and went out of his way to talk to a tech in AU to find the real answers for me and not just give a "because we say so".

So the new OME kit for the 2010+ 4R is a 3"/3" kit and here is what he had to say:

So, here is the scoop. I discussed these vehicles with our tech dept. here. The new (2010+) U.S. 4 Runner chassis is set lower than the Australian market release vehicles. The 3.0 suspension in the U.S. is about 2.0 on Australian trucks. So, even if you used the 2895 (2009-) coils in the back, you would still get about 3.0. Tech is saying that you could install the 2895E in the back, which would reduce the height by about 1.0. So, on a stock truck 2884 in the front and 2895E in rear if you want more of level vehicle. We don't have access to the specs on the new springs yet, but apparently, they are very close to the previous part numbers, just a bit taller.

Yeah, the more I read about which OME springs are being installed on 5th gen 4Runners, the more confused I get.

I also spoke to ARBUSA and it is confirmed that the rear springs for the 5th gen are indeed different part numbers than those used for the 4th gen. NitroCharger Sport shocks (F&R) are also different from the 4th gen.

The part that confuses me is that ARB states that these new springs/shocks will give the 5th gen 4Runner a 3" lift and Rocky Road Outfitters states that the same springs/shocks give a 2.5" lift. So which is it?

You may say why worry about a difference of a 1/2" but it may make the difference between having to use a diff drop and aftermarket UCA's or not. My understanding is that 2.8" of lift is the upper limit of lift height on the 5th gen 4Runners before diff drops and UCA's are going to be needed. Am I misinformed?

ARB's answer when i asked that same questions were i shouldn't need UCA's (also what the guys running 884's on this forum have said) - he also said that a diff drop is not needed and if you do need to do it is not to expensive or hard to do.

ARB probably has more experience with lifting toyota or nissan SUV's than anyone in the world so they should have a good idea about there products.

I personally don't want to push the 3" mark so I am going to do CO's w bilsteins at about 2-2.5" max in front. Not sure what to do in back . I only want an 1-1.5" max.

Because of all this confusion I get "tempted" to just do 5100's at all 4 corners and and do spacers .

I'm looking for a subtle 1"-1.5" also. After reading about the aussie versions I'm wondering if you could install Australian version Prado springs and get a lift similar to the FJ springs on the 4th gen 4runners? Anyone know how you could get australian market parts? I may be willing to be the guinea pig on this one.
 
I installed 883 fronts and 895E rears. After settling, I netted 2" all around. The factory rake is still maintained. I think 884 fronts and 895E rears should provide a level truck, with 2.5" in front, and 2" in rear.

From when i talked to Duffy with ARB USA he said that 884 on OME struts should provide 3" of front lift, and the 889 (which is the new rear spring for the 2010 T4R) should provide 3" in the rear. I have planned on using the 895e to get a 2" rear lift a get a level rig.

But most important also Duffy said all the part numbers for the new 4Runner shocks are different because the weight of the vehicle is different.

So how is the ride quality with the 895E coils in rear when running unloaded? Noticeably harsher than stock? I assume you are still using the OEM shock absorbers.

Ok so I originally had the toytec topout spacer installed to level it out. The stock height was 34in from the ground to the bottom of the fender after the topout spacer it went to 36in then I decided I wanted it lifted and went with 884's and superflex in the rear it brought the front with 285's to 39in so minus the tire increase I am at about 4.5 inches of lift up front. Now after about 6k miles on the springs it has settled to about 38 3/4in and in the rear the toytec superflex springs gave me about 2.5 in the rear. I also did this before ARB even said the springs would fit I went solely off what toytec said and from what another member had done previously (hawkdog21). I was more concerned with a level lift.

With all this being said I always thought my 4runner was alittle lower up front then most maybe this is the reason I got more lift then anticipated?

all this started for me after talking to Toytec, but now it would make since to get 4+ inches with that setup. I guess the FJ and older 4R are similar but quite different. What i have seen is mostly people making FJ lifts work, and its good to see a company like ARB make something specific.
 
Rear OME Spring specs

Ok got some more details back from ARB AU, looks like the gen 5 T4R are 10mm longer than those made for the FJ (895,896)

Here are the new spring specs via Syd Groves w/ ARB AU:

2889 - 260lbs - 400mm

2898 - 318lbs - 400mm

2899 - 387lbs - 400mm

According to ARB all 5th gen ARB/OME spring are giving 3" .

I talked to them yesterday and those are no longer available for the 5th gen . So I was told by them .

The rear is slightly firmer than stock, but by no means is it harsh or uncomfortable at all. I am running the stock shocks on all corners.
