Info on these TRD wheels

Here's part of an e-mail I received from Dustin concerning these wheels.

Should answer some questions ...

Our wheels differ from the TRD Pro wheels in a few areas. Our wheel has a lower offset and 1" wider width (TRD Pro is 17x7" and not 17x7.5" like your OEM Trail Edition wheels). Our backspacing is 4.5" vs. 4.16" on the TRD pro. I have outlined the differences in specs for you here:

TRD Pro wheel width : 7" wheel width (cannot safely install 285/70R17 tires)
FN Wheels ƒ(x) Pro wheel width: 8" wheel width (you can safely install 285/70R17 tires)

TRD Pro offset: +4mm
FN Wheels ƒ(x) Pro offset: 0mm (wider stance of .66" over TRD Pro wheel, and wider stance of .84" over SR5/Trail Edition OEM wheel)

TRD Pro backspacing: 4.16"
FN Wheels ƒ(x) Pro backspacing: 4.5"

TRD Pro wheel weight: 27lbs (approximate) with 955KG load rating
FN Wheels ƒ(x) Pro wheel weight: 24lbs (approximate) with 955KG load rating

Same with mine. I don't off-road so adding sliders would be just for the look, but to me the "look" is alot better with nothing there. It has a more aggressive stance now.

Safely install? I can tell you first hand that when I had my 285/70/17 duratracs on my TRD Pro wheels for about 20,000 miles I had zero issues on or off road and did not experience any issues with abnormal tire wearing. This is just my experience with my driving habits and rotation every 3k mi. I currently have 305/70/17 Goodyear MTR's on my TRD Pro's, but only have about 3400 miles on them so far. I don't think the discount tire guys would have installed them if there were any safety issues (I could be wrong about that haha). I will definitely keep anyone who is curious up to date with posts on how my experience goes putting this size of tire with 7" rim. If it starts to hurt my tires or somehow becomes a safety hazard (highly unlikely) I will probably put mine up for sale and grab some FN wheels. :tea:

My TRD Pro rims are fine with Cooper AT3's, stock size.

Tried looking for this but could not find definite answer. Will the oe tpms swap over onto the trd wheels? My current wheels are 2011 sr5. Thanks in advance

Great thanks for the help! I am getting the trd pro wheels/tires done tuesday, very excited. Also they are back on ebay. There was a strike and the shipment was held up. Its starting to make its way to back. No VIN crap. Not sure about trd shop etc though.

Hi Guys,

We've been super swamped lately, and haven't been able to reply to forum messages and e-mails as quickly as we'd like (although we always answer our phones / return phone calls right away). I know that a lot of you are interested in our new wheel, and many of you have already ordered (thank you to everyone who has ordered!).

Here are the specs of our new wheel:

We sought to answer the demand from 4Runner owners / T4R.org members with this wheel. Many of us feel that the OE wheel missed the ball so to speak with the 7" wheel width. There is no debate as to whether or not a 7" wide wheel falls into the tire manufacturers' approved rim width range for the popular 285/70R17 tire size (it does not). Some will debate whether or not it is still safe, but at the end of the day if it's not in the tire manufacturers' approved specifications you may find your tires wearing prematurely or unevenly, and if so, the tire manufacturer is under no obligation to warranty your tires. This is also not to mention potential safety concerns with pinching a wider tire on too narrow of a wheel.

Consequently, we spent almost a year talking with 4Runner owners about this wheel. We discussed what improvements should made, and then we spent many hours working with our engineering and design time, testing, casting multiple samples, testing again, certifying the wheels, and finally coming up with the wheel you see here.

The specs of the FN Wheels ƒ(x) Pro are perfect for lifted 4Runners with larger tires (especially the super popular 285/70R17 size), but the ƒ(x) Pros will also work great with OEM suspension and OE sized 265/70R17 (or 265/65R17 tires for previous generation 4Runners). The quality of the wheels is consistent with FN Wheels' commitment to offering a premium product in the specs, colors, finishes, etc. that our customers want.
