Inside rearview mirror question

Has anyone ever removed the insdie rear view mirror on T4R that has the automatic dimming capability? If so, is there a plug on the power wire to the mirror, or do I have to cut it? My 97 has one and I want it gone.

I hate those automatic mirrors, they dim AFTER the car and the headlights go by you, so to me they are virtually worthless. I am going to stick amirror on the glass and use the manual dimming capability, that I can trust to work.

I don't have one, but I would guess that the wire is integrated to the connector that goes to the mirror/maplight assembly. It should only be a couple screws to pull down the assembly to verify. If that's the case, you could isolate the ground wire for the dimmer and depin it from the connector, then cap it off with heat shrink. That way it's still there if someone wants it later.

The wire is a two strand wire that runs along the headliner towards the drivers side A-pillar. I haven't had time to pull the headliner down to see if there is a plug for it, somewhere up there.

Interesting. There could be a plug above the headliner, in the mirror assembly, or even under the dash. I'd locate where that wire ends and try to unplug it, rather than cutting.
