Install: Cornfed 3/2, 285/70/17 and 275/65/18 Cooper STT's and Spidertrax

UPDATED

- Colorado trip on page 11
- 275/65/18 STT's and Pro Comp wheels on page 12

After almost a year of reading, asking questions, researching and more reading....I finally took the plunge.

Yesterday, a Cornfed spacer lift (3 inches in front/2 inches in the rear) and 1.25" Spidertrax hub-centric wheel spacers (WHS-007)were installed on my 2005 SE T4R. The install went very well and the guys over at Mike's Offroad were extremely experienced and easy to work with. After a 4 hour install, I drove over to NTB to mount the 285/70/17 Cooper Discoverer STT tires on my 17" Sport wheels. The tires are UNBELIEVABLE!

Now, I know there are going to be some obvious questions, so let me get right to the first one.

1) Rubbing:
REAR - Absolutely none in the rear. Wheel spacers provide more than enough space and it looks like even if I didn't have the wheel spacers installed the tires would still fit fine.

FRONT - None on the UCA's. I can fit three fingers inbetween the tire and the closest part of the UCA. I also eliminated about half of the plastic fender-well lining so there is also no rubbing in the front UNLESS you pop it into reverse and crank the wheel. The tread slightly catches on the corner of the front bumper so that will need to be trimmed. (update: trimming has been done, pics on page 3) The wheel spacers also allow for a full turning radius without rubbing the inside of the wheel well at full crank.

How much is 1.25" Spidertrax hub-centric wheel spacers (WHS-007)?

Do you need longer lugs to have enough thread for tighten up the wheels?

I am glad the mods worked out great for you. Can't wait to see the pictures. I am waiting for my pre-ordered wheels. If the wheels do not come in 3 weeks. I will get the spacers. Thanks for the spacers information.

$100 per pair and shipping was about $24 if you want a 3-day turnaround. ($224 Total).

Run a search on K6UK who is a member here on this forum. He also has the spidertrax spacers and posted a great write-up with pics. You'll see that new lugs are not required as they come with the wheel spacers.

As promised...here are some photos that I took this morning before work. Enjoy!

Damn looks sweet !!

I thought wheel spacers put alot of stress on a driveline, but they sure look good , hell I would'nt even mind just having spacers........lol

I wish there were some off road shops around here. Nobody knows crap , not even the suspension tech. at the body shop knows how to do spacers with Xreas.

Thanks! Compliments to K6UK and all of the other folks who have responded to my numerous questions over the last year or so : )

Haven't had the pleasure yet. Just got them installed about 2 days ago. I want to trim my front bumper first just to make sure clearance is well taken care of before I start learning the limits of articulation.

Ride looks sick man, ive been looking into lifts for about 2 months now although i only got my truck on tuesday. I knew i was getting one about three months ago when i was looking into getting a new car and checking out the forum. I saw some of the members rides and fell in love with the look of the 4th gen... especially lifted! Ive been with with sports cars my life so far and then my dad bought a jeep and i bashed that thing around a little bit off road and fell in love. I wanted something i could explore with ocassionaly but still drove nicely day to day, the jeep sucked getting from point A to point B. Tell me how it does whenever you get a chance to test it out, im debating between spacers or coilover i just want clearence pretty much and the spacers to be a cheaper and easier route to go. Congrats once again i love it, any chance you can get me a coundclip of the magna?

Anyone have any advice on what psi I should be running both on and off road? Thanks in advance!

Try 35 psi on-road...and about 18-20 psi off-road (for most terrains).

Thanks Thai! I had them aired to 35 psi when installed and so far so good. Looks like I have a very even contact patch on the asphault.

Just a quick report....the new lift and tires allowed 285 miles out of a full tank of gas.....which is better than I thought!

Is the 285 miles the actual traveled road miles or is it taken from the mileage on your truck's tripometer? If it was taken from your truck's tripometer, then with the addition of the 285's, your mileage is going to be off by at least 12%-15% because of the larger circumference of the tire.

I have the same setup as trik and I took it muddin the other day sat it still in about a foot and a half of sweet smelling georgia crawfish mud. I thru it into 4wd and put it in second gear and thru rooster tails 30 feet high. I couldnt get stuck no matter how hard I tried....and believe me I tried!!!!!I pulled a 6cyl wrangler with 35s out of a wallowed out pit that he bottomed out in and he was impressed. then I went thru it with no prob. he was really impressed then.:D

trik, our rides are virtually the same. the only difference is I have a brush gaurd and you have black outs on the front....

sweet setup, I hope you like it as much as me....
