Install: Cornfed 3/2, Cooper STT 285/70/17 and Spidertrax

Cooper ST's (not to be confused with the Cooper STT mud-terrains I had on before). Believe it or not they were sent to me by accident and I never returned them...figured I would give them a shot. I prefer the look of a mud tire but these have held up really well so far and I am hoping they help my gas mileage improve just a bit so I can save $$$ and buy another set of te STT's when it comes time haha.

I'm going to email you the Alignment Report that was given to me after I had my 4-wheel alignment done. This should give you the exact measurements for toe, camber, caster, SAI, etc.

If you have your settings adjusted to what mine are and it is still rubbing, I can only conclude the .25" difference between your and my spacers are what's causing the rubbing on the frame.
Trikk444, Is there anyway you could email your alignment report. I am getting ready to have my Cornfed Lift, Copper STT's and new wheels installed this weekend. After reading and re-reading this post, I figured I would try to get your alignment report and use the same exact setting so I don't run into any problems. Here is my email address. [email protected]. Thanks!

Here is the alignment that was done after I had my lift and tires installed (285/70/17's). I hope this helps!

WE recommend an alignment after the lift, but I've had many that haven't done them and haven't had issues. But it is good peace of mind.

Just have to post how much of a help this thread in particular has been. I have a couple of questions though for those of you that still check this thread.

1) If you go the cornfed 3/2 route instead of a full suspension upgrade like FJC setup or OME...do you experience a worse ride than stock? I do not think I have XREAS (although I don't know how I can be sure...)...if that matters at all.

2) I love the look of the 285/70/17 STT's...but am worried like other members here about the trimming. I've got a dremel but don't want to be messing crucial components up. Carving out pieces from the bumper and undercarriage sounds incredibly risky. I am in the DFW area though so maybe I could buy someone a 6pack to help me out here...

3) Anybody have pictures of 265/70/17 STT's mounted? Do they look much worse? Wimpy?

4) Is it correct to say I should expect 3/2 installation costs of around $300-$400?

I've sold hundreds of 3/2 kits and can tell you this. If you like they way the truck rides right now, then the 3/2 kit is going to ride just about the same. It feels great, and looks great. I have a lot of guys that buy this kit, and their wife is the one that drives the truck, and they are always concerned how it will ride after, and let me tell you, it rides great, and most don't notice any difference.

You might be ok with the 285's, it depends on the brand of tire sometimes. They may be minor rubbing, or might not be any. You could also install the spidertrax spacers we sell, and there definitely won't be any rubbing with 285's. I've had people install 265's, and it doesn't look that bad.

Install on the 3/2 takes 3-4 hours, plan on $65 an hour on ships around here.

Cornfed 3/2 lift

Spidertrax wheel spacers

sorry if this has been asked but there are just too many pages to read through. so everyone here has a 3" lift up front, is anyone having alignment issues?

do you need to get new UCAs with this lift and how are your CVs?

Hayden,
Just have to post how much of a help this thread in particular has been.

- The ride is not worse than stock except on speed bumps. The front isn't any stiffer (at least not any more noticeable) but the back is noticeably more stiff.

- It's not risky. It's incredibly easy. After using the dremmel myself, I would suggest either using a box cutter on the inner plastic or just push them up further into the wheel well and zip tie them back if you are worried about doing harm to your rig. Many members on this forum just zip tie them back. But carving off some of the front bumper (lower corner) will be necessary.

3) Anybody have pictures of 265/70/17 STT's mounted? Do they look much worse? Wimpy?

I don't have any but I've seen them...and yes, they look very wimpy. Go with the 285's and you won't regret it. You should also pick up a set of the Spidertrax wheel spacers as well...pushes the wheel/tires out from the frame and gives you some extra space between the UCA and tire treads...not to mention it looks mean.

4) Is it correct to say I should expect 3/2 installation costs of around $300-$400?

Contact Harper7 on the toyota120 forum. He is local to DFW (Roanoke area I believe) and I think he installs or knows someone who does. I went to a shop in the area and spent almost $500 on install....got raped.

rvcahawaii808,

What's up man. in regards to your questions...

UCA - If you go with a 3/2 spacer lift, no need to upgrade the UCA's. I've been running this setup (stock UCA's) for over 4 years. The benefit to running an upgraded UCA like Total Chaos, Icon, etc. is that you can make adjustments to your caster/camber easier. I would suggest spending the money if you pull the trigger on a full suspension system in the future, but it's not needed with a spacer lift.

CV Angles - Unless you are wheeling your rig pretty hard, the general consensus is this...no need to do anything unless you lift more than 3 inches in the front. Some folks install a CV breather if they are submerging through streams, rivers, etc. and some folks get a ripped boot every now and then from general water and tear but nothing serious.

PS ~ 808! You in Maui? Just got back from 2 weeks in Lahaina to see family last week...perfect weather.

jason, do you know if i was to put a 2.5 lift on my 3rd gen with 285 coopers would it rub badly or just minimal? thanks and i dont mean to hijack your thread trik.

btw, trik how many miles have you got out of your coopers?

No sweat man! I know on a 4th gen that would not give you enough lift...but I know squat about 3rd gens. Someone with a 3rd gen please feel free to chime in!
