It is quite simple and took me about 1.5 hrs too. Haven't had the nerve to do the fogs. But then again, to be functional, fogs shouldn't be that bright anyway or is it just me?

3k fogs are bright yellow. Mine work great.

Where did you mount the ballast for your HID fogs? Did you also use the OEM wiring or did you use the harness/wiring that came with the HID kit for your fogs as well?
I've got a set of XenonDepot HIDs running off of OEM wiring for my lows right now. Wondering if I could do the same for my fogs.

The planning stages for me took the longest. It may take you a few hours determining where you want to place the ballast (and igniter) and how you want to secure them, but it's really easy one you've decided.
I would suggest lay out the wiring harness as well, if you're using one, before zipping everything down. When I installed mine the length of the wiring harness also dictated where the ballasts would go.

Curious NH, can you support this "opinion"? Just "general" knowledge, or do you have a 5G with an HID kit?
Kindly don't come back and flame me if you do not have specific knowledge, as many 5G members have done this, including myself, with improved lighting results, without the dreaded "glare" of some halogen reflectors.

There is no magic in projectors suitable for HID bulbs. Inside any projector unit, there are the following:
1. Lens
2. shield (steped edged if beam pattern shows such)
3. Reflector
The only difference a HID bulb will create from pluging it directly into the holder of a Halogen projector is the position of illumination. What I mean is if you place a H1 bulb side by side with a D2S HID buld retrofitted for H1 application, the HID bulb is much longer. If you look carefully, you can find both illumination point of both HID and Halogen bulb.
There is a rather simple solution to make the retrofit work perfectly.
That is to compare and determine the step back required for the HID conversion bulb and slot in high temperature rubber washers to compensate the differential distance. Also find a way to preperly secure the HID conversion bulb now that it is protruding more out of the projetor housing.
I am certain this will create the correct beam pattern that meets test standards after correct focul point has been acheived.
I'll do the test myself and show the results later.
If any kind soul is willing to try it out and post the results before me is welcome.

Here's a link explaining why installing a kit is a bad idea: HID conversion info
What it boils down to is the position and orientation of the light being generated. The filament in a regular bulb is side to side and an HID is front to back. The reflector is designed for one or the other. Swapping them puts them in the wrong location and changes the beam pattern.
If you want to upgrade from a halogen to a HID system or downgrade from a HID to a halogen you need to change the reflector as well

You are partly correct. Changing the bulb to an HID from a Halogen does change the focal characteristics of the reflector, but some reflectors are better than others when dealing with this change.
