Just finished up the installation of my newly acquired 6-Disc Scion HU. It was definitely worth the money I paid for it!!! ( Under $300 Shipped!!!) It fit perfectly!!! Anyone thinking about making the move.... DO IT!!! You won't regret it. I went for the 6-Disc just to make the HU swap worth the time. I'm not much into having the ultimate sound system so this was perfect for me. :D

Where did you find the radio? Dealer or private party?I am looking for one myself. Spouse feels the 99 jeep radio sounded better and it had a 10 disk changer. I do not want to go crazy on a radio and want it to fit like stock.

i jus got a kicker sub and alpine amp installed in my 4runner. it sounds good with the stock head unit. my single disc scion radio is comming in this friday. i mainly liked the mp3 feature and the higher output. hopefully it'll do my amp and sub more justice.

Do you have the standard 6 speaker install? I was thinking of getting the Scion unit, but I've got the JBL 10 speaker system, and searching through the forums, I'm now thinking I can't replace my HU with the Scion HU...

Am I correct??
 
I have the same question. I also have the jbl 10 speaker option. Does this mean the wiring harness is different and the scion radio will not work?

Unfortunately, those of you with the JBL system are out of luck when it comes to a Scion head unit. It just won't work because of the wiring harnesses. You may want to wait until the 2005 4Runners come out. I work for a Toyota dealer and just got my new allocation in Thursday that shows some of the 05's coming in. They're changing some audio setups on some of the 05 Toyotas (Camry is getting XM radio like the Solara). The 05 Runner won't be out until around Sep/Oct, but you never know what they're going to do. Toyota's very secretive about everything new.

I have been kinda hoping Toyota upgrades the radio in the 05 model.

The main problem with the Scion unit is it has its own built in amp and our JBL system has an external amp.

Debating on a NAV unit but I think what I really miss is the 6 cd changer. The sub on the JBL is not even audible from the front seat.

All of the speakers in the back seem to be a waste unless you regularly sit in the back seat. They are not audible.

I just sent you an email with some questions, but I should probably post them here as well.

How hard is it to do the install as far as taking the dash apart? Is there anything I should know before I start? And do the steering wheel controls work with the 6-disc head unit? And any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

You're not kidding when you said a lifetime. It's a scary thought to have 3.9GB of MP3s at your fingertips while driving. Those Houston's long traffic lights, endless constructions, and yeah, *** drivers don't seem so bad.
 
I've also got the 10-speaker jbl system, and while it sounds awesome in the back seat you just can't hear that subwoofer from the front. I ordered a PhatNoise to go in place of a CD Changer for 20 gigs of mp3s, and I'm going to figure out some sort of subwoofer setup so I can have just a little more bass in there. From what I can tell, the rest of the speakers sound good - I think just some added bass will really liven up the stereo.
 
Does anyone have pictures of this head unit???

Worth a hundred bucks or so? (seems to be a going price) I've got the basic 6 speaker system. Would it help with the flat/dull sound, even with stock speakers?
