Installing 2x PIAA Aux. Lamps - Need help trouble shooting the wiring

1994 4Runner

Has:
- 400watt Amp (stero)
- Python Anti-Theft System

The rest of the electrical is stock.

What I am trying to do is wire two 50watt PIAA lamps into my front grill gaurd.

All is wired and the switch installed in the cockpit, but the fuse between the battery and the relay will NOT keep from instantly blowing out.

My guess would be that there is a wiring fault with lamps them selves, the circuit is shorting somewhere and that is blowing out the fuse. Here is a primative wiring diagram and the part specs.

Wow sorry thats so poor in quality. just follow the lines, and let me know if you have an idea.

The relay is 30amp rated and the switch is 20amp rated.

DO I EVEN NEED THE FUSE BETWEEN THE BATTERY AND THE RELAY? SHOULD THE LAMPS WIRING BE IN A CIRCUIT?

IE

(pos)-------((+LAMP-))----((+LAMP-))-------(neg / gound)

OR should both positives and negatives be paired together and then joined into a single power line that splits?

It seems that the lights should not be grounded... something which i suspected was shorting the circuit... I will also be adding the 20A fuse to the conncetion between the swtich and the battery.

Figured it out myself, but here is if for anyone to see if you need it.

Still blowing fuses.





Taking the project back to square one. Running all new wire, new mount points for the grounds and getting all the stuff listed on the wiring diagram above.




Does anyone know if the negative terminal on my battery should be tapped into the bodywork with a short, 4 gauge cable? and if it should be like that.... then why.... i wish it worked like the pictures... sigh.... thanks in advance for any advice.

I would just rewire everything there could be one small spot of rubbed off insulation touching something metal and you will blow fuses everytime.

Your diagram is right.

Ground both the lights I had too on my Hella's


Yes the battery is grounded to the truck body/not sure why.

Out of total frustration and blowing about 13 fuses from 15 to 20 amps over a 3 hour time period i went "vanilla ice" one the wiring and ripped it out. Redoing it as we speak, and I just need to get some more protective tubing, some end clips, shink tube, and some more damned fuses.

If i figure it out I'll make an idoits guide to wiring lights so that idiots like me won't have to suffer with their.... idioticedness

Yeah the diagram is pretty much what i have, just something in the system is... buggy.

I'm going to the parts shop today and i think i am going to get that aux. fuse box mod that is linked to in that page. with my amp, security system, lights, and the 2 more sets of lights, police radio and possibly even which to come I will need the space.... plus another battery and dual alternators.... i hope not...
