Installing all new speakers with external amp..run wire through factory harness???

I'm getting close to putting my new components (front) and coaxial (rear) in my 4R. I will be powering them with an external 4 channel amp. I was wondering if there any real disadvantages to running the speaker out of the amp to the CD player and tap into the harness which would then go to the doors. Is the connection to the 6x9 in the front a full range meaning not crossed over before the speaker. I would be using the components crossover in the door which would then split off to the tweeter and woofer. Thanks.

I wired mine that way, with no noticable disadvantages. It took alot less time to install. Alot of people in here used the factory wiring too. BTW: I have 90w rms/channel to my comps and coaxs.

Do you know it all if the fronts are crossed over at (for the woofer/tweeter). I would assume you would just utilize the woofer connection into the component sets crossover then out to the new woofer/tweeter. Thanks.

Yeah, that's right. You'll see only 1 pair of wires from the HU through the door jam, to the door speakers. I believe that pair goes to the tweeter, which has a RC combo that is the crossover, then it sends a pair (in parallel) to the woofer. You just use the pair that comes directly from the head unit as your full-range input to your new crossover.

Sidenote: I mounted my Infinity Kappa crossover in the door, I just duct taped it to the door and the panel, when put back onto the door, holds it securely into place - no rattle at all. That was the easiest way for me to do it. I just had to find the envelope of space (approximately 3x5x1) where it could fit in there by eyeballing it, and trial/error.

I'm assuming there is some sort of plastic connector in the door for the speaker wiring. Did you just cut this for your connection or get some sort of adapter? Oh and here the crossover for my components: (http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/dimens/crossover_large.jpg)
See any problem in getting this to fit (front and rear)?

Yeah, I cut the connector right off and tossed it away. No need for it. I'm not going through the trouble of re-installing the stock speakers when I sell the 4R in 8 years.

That's about the same size as my crossover. You should find room in the middle of the door panel to mount it.
