installing all new suspension: what to be ready for

Hey all, my OME setup shipped today....
(full medium setup)
So I am starting to get real anxious :cheers: A friend of mine with an 05 rubicon and I are going to do it, just curious if there are any really difficult/notorious parts or steps....
My current shocks arent stock, they are blown adjustable rancho's, so they have been changed before..oh and the steering stabilizer.
Other than that, I dont know if the leafs are stock or not but I am pretty sure they are... and the torsion def is...

We have all the tools necessary, an airplane hangar to work in, 24 beers and some chron, just looking for TIPS. Thanks for the info, I am really excited. The ome stuff on my 05 was AWESOME.

Don't forget the new hardware

I got the OME rear springs and torsion bars for my '89. The stock hardware was toast so I sprung for all new bolts, washers and nuts for the rear. Also went to Toyota and picked up the torsion bar adjusting hardware, as the originals were pretty corroded.
The original hardware had fused itself to the bolt/bushing spacer, so I ended up cutting the spring eye bolts off. The stock shackles didn't come off in one piece either so I had to make new ones out of 1/4" plate. Other than that, they're leaf springs, so no big deal. I will however be pulling the lower/shortest overload spring out of the pack, as the rear is just way to tall and stiff for my liking.
With regards to the torsion bars, I didn't even try to remove the nuts, I put a breaker bar on them and broke the bolt to save myself the headache. They came out easily and the new ones went in with no problem.......Good luck with your install, hope I was able to help a little.

ok, I forgot to mention earlier that my shackles aren't stock and on that same note I also dont know what they are :) i still carry my gen1 hymen.

So the ome torsion bar didnt come with new hardware? you'd expect it for a thousand bucks, but hey.....:artist:

so what hardware should I look into purchasing? I got f/r shocks, steering stabilizer, front torsions, rear leafs, u-bolts and bushings...

I never did a torsion lift I went SAS, but taking my torsion out was a *****, luckily I got a HUGE,,,,plasma cutter...

and If I had a couple more grand around Id've done SAS, but..........
 
I wouldn't even bother putting a wrench on on the front spring hanger pins, just break out the cutting wheel and cut them out, be sure to have new ones from Toyota ordered up and ready for the install. Hopefully the chron isn't too strong, mine was and it took me forever to find where I put my tools after just setting them down! :lol:

no such thing as too strong chron! lol
anyways... so the front spring hanger pins is one thing I need to get, what else? Thanks mate!

I was up in the mountains for a few days, you seem to have found the shackles you need. May the chron be with you.

Hey man, did you get your shackles on already? They are stock height or bigger??
Im wondering if my truck will be going up or down with this change.....
 
The shackles I have are exactly stock height (3.5" if I remember correctly). I'm not sure if we have the same part #'s though, yours didn't look that familiar when I saw it. If I can dig up a thread that I posted my quote on I will check.

Just checked and I have OME GS3 shackles, same as you. My rear springs ended up lifting me over 2", this was on the OME Dakaar 0-2" lift springs. I assumed that my shackles were the reason until I compared them to the stock ones I removed, exactly the same length.

and OH WOW...... Just going through everything and seeing the quality is a pleasure :D i luh me some EMU
