Installing Leveling Kit, replace shocks too?

My shocks have 85k on them and they feel fine, but was wondering if I should go ahead and replace the front ones since I will have the front end apart anyway. Is it worth $180 or do my shocks have a long way to go?

I was thinking of the Bilstein HDs F4-BE5-C513-H0 for a ride more similar to a Tacoma TRD Sport.

Basically, is it worth $180 to get new front shocks if I don't need them?

(some of you may remember me from the Rollercoaster thread where I was thinking I was in bad need of new shocks. It turned out to be the tires and my shocks are fine)

Unless they are leaking I say they still have a bit of life but not that much. my truck has 66,000 and are leaking. I'm not too familiar with lifts but with a leveling kit you should be ok to go. I'm sure more people with experience will chime in here. are you doing a FJ swap or something like that?

What tires did you get? The shock question is tough. Given I have 'free' labor I'd opt to wait. If I was paying a shop I might just do the shocks now.

What about just getting the Bilstein height adjustable shocks? They've got a 1.75" setting that would level it out nicely and it'd knock it all out at once. If you decide to do shocks, that's the way I'd go. As for me, I'm at 132k miles and just installed my lift (fj springs and a 1/2" thick topout spacer). My shocks aren't leaking, and ride seems fine (no bouncing or anything noticeable) so I opted to hold off on shocks. I did the install myself, so if I have to replace shocks in a year so be it, all it means is half a day of my time.

I am paying a shop to do it and I already have the daystar kit, otherwise I would do the adjustable shocks. I have not replaced the tires yet, but I do know it is tires causing trouble.

Do the bilstein adjustable shocks work with XREAS?

No. XREAS is integral to the shocks and vice-versa. It's either or. XREAS is great. The low volume of XREAS has made the replacement price high to the point most replace with high quality non-XREAS shocks. I have yet to hear of someone regretting removing worn XREAS.
