Installing seat belts

I am installing seat belts with shoulder straps in the back seat of my 87. There is a point on the roll bar to bolt these up. Is there a special bolt I need to purchase? If not, does anyone have a quick size handy so I can buy some?

It is the same bolt/spacer/washer setup as the lower and upper mounts for the front belts. I bought a set of front belts off Ebay with bolts and all and bolted them right in. Only thing I had to do was drill a new hole in the lower connection tab, install the left side on the right and the right on the left (this allowed the inertia box to sit flush on the roll bar), fold the belt over inside the sliding latch so you can flip the latch around (if not the latch will be backwards when you get to the catch) and you are done. Anchor point for for belt side bolts right into the original backseat belt hole. They even use the original backseat catches so no need to install the longer front ones.

Once I was done I lifted the 4Runner up into different angles to make sure the inertia mechanism was working correctly. I later tested in on a few off camber trails and they have worked great. Much more confident having rear passengers now.

The thread in the roll bar for shoulder belts is an SAE Fine thread, not metric. It's x/16", where x = 5/7/9, I can't remember which

Also, if you grab a set of belts out of a single cab, they will have a nice plastic cover over them and will look like they are meant to be there. I picked up a set, but I would have to relocate my rollbar speakers, so maybe some other time. I don't ride back there.

I have an 86Runner. I got a front assembly off of a second gen (92-95). Bolts for anchor and inertia mechanism fit well and they seem to have same threads, but the upper mount seems to screw in with slight resistance. I wonder if it's a self-locking feature, but am afraid to force it and cross-thread if I am wrong

bringing up an older thread.

i wanted to have 3-point belts for rear passengers in my 1st gen, and i spent a fair amount of time looking for oem. barring that, there were several other installs possible, some involved cutting and restitching donor belts to have them fit better.

i really preferred an option that didn't involve any cutting of the belts to make them fit. so, i decided to see if the rear belts from my retired '95 subaru legacy wagon would work. turns out, they installed with virtually no modification, using the subaru mounting hardware in the stock 4runner mounting locations. no belt cutting/shortening. i did have to remove the loop anchor extension used in the legacy to hardmount system to the roof of the subaru, because the 4runner loop is anchored to the rollbar (it's the upper mount). i used a grinder to cut the rivet from the extender/loop anchor, and the belts were then ready to install.

i don't yet have a cover for the retractors, but other than that, it is done. '95 to '97 legacy wagons should be the same. i don't know for sure whether outback wagons would work, as there are some differences in ceiling heights.

Nice, Wally! (First time I stumbled into this post.) I used 2nd gen 4Runner belts but were too long and did not have the cover for the retractor. Later I found a set from 2nd Gen pick-up which have the covers. However, belts are still too long. May have to ask for advice from my parachute rigger friend how to safely cut and stitch to proper length.

In case anyone wants the 2nd gen belts I used to use, they can have the pair for $20 shipped.
