Installing Spartan locker tomorrow, Tips?

Great video. It wasn't as loud as I expected. The inside sounded almost non-existent. Thank you very much

Thanks and I hope I can get off road soon!

More on the on road use: Coming out of a turn it kind of feels like it wants to steer itself, doesn't really bother me. Ratcheting around corners is not a problem, I listen to music so I can't hear it much.

Nice vid. The ratcheting sounds comparable to my Aussie. I don't get that big clunk though unless I'm making a fully locked super tight parking lot maneuver (almost never).

Ok, I found out all the noises even the clunk are 100 percent normal. I feel so much better! Now to fix this leak....

I have heard that you can minimize the ratcheting/clunking by letting off the gas/coasting thru turns.

Luckily that guy wrote that because that is going to help A LOT! I found it a few weeks ago, thanks for helping out though.

I shamelessly "liked" the mentions of my write up. I'm calling myself out here so no need for anyone to pile on :cowboy:

I just got my Spartan installed over the weekend and I have to say I was a little bit surprised with some of the clanking and banging. It doesn't do it all the time, but especially making u-turns up a parking garage it doesn't always smoothly unlock and ratchet. It will either say locked and chirp a tire or will kinda bind and bang unlocked about every other turn. That combined with the firestik hitting the ceiling scares the hell out of people walking by

That being said, it does seem to do fine just making normal 90* turns. Fairly seemless, just the occasional little thunk that lets you know its there.

P.S. The install is a breeze even for someone who has never worked on the axle before. The included instructions were extremely helpful with pictures and descriptions. Had it done, including an hour long parts run for an axle seal in about 4 and a half or 5 hours

I had one of these in my j**p and it did the same thing for the first while then I couldn't tell that it was doing it. The clank is it disengaging and is normal. almost all "lunchbox" lockers do it. The clicking is the same normal. I ran the spartan for 45k and still worked fine after. It was on a D35 with c-clip axle shafts. worked great off road and wasn't terrible on road. I was also in a full time 4wd and the viscous coupler was going out so the front was locking up and was horrible on turn. well I had a axle shaft blow up on me and so i just disconnected the front driveshaft, separated the axle shafts and sealed the diff. essentially making it a 2wd and it was a breeze to drive after that. it is a good locker and you will like it.
