Pop the little plastic piece off above the unlock lever. There is a singe screw to remove. Once you do that, gently pull the bottom of the doors off towards working your way around the bottom edges. Once you get most of the door panel off, lift it up and towards you and the panel should come right out. It will still be connected by the door wires so don't just yank it out too quickly. Once you do that, you can undo all the cords or just let it hang while you unscrew the speakers and replace it.

Did you make sure that the speakers you bought fit the not only the diameter but also the depth of the door? 4runner doors are not too deep. Also, did you buy any speaker brackets because you may need those too.

Your welcome!

i did all of that but i couldnt get the inside of the door to come off it wouldnt budge at all
Look at the edge of the door panel. Using a large flat blade screwdriver carefully pry up the edge and using a flashlight look for a white plug or clip. When you find one insert another flat blade screwdriver so that you have one flat blade on each side of this white retainer and pry up the door panel. It is fairly common for these retainers to break before releasing and it requires a fair amount of effort to do this. A good idea is to go to the dealer and buy all new clips beforehand. Using the two screwdriver method work your way around the panel one fastener at a time until you have them all separated from the door. When they are all loose have someone standing by to hold the door panel while you release the door handle and lock cables near the top. Then you can unplug the light in the door well and the plug for the window switch.

You need to either man up or just take it to a professional, which by the sounds of it, may have been a good idea to begin with....or work out. ;):

It will take some force to remove but it should come loose. They do sell plastic panel wedges - see if auto zone sells.

You're still welcome
