Installing Subs

Looking to install subs on my 2000 4Runner. I want something cheap, and not too loud. I dont need to be able to knock down buildings or anything. I'm just looking for a solid output.

What would you guys recommend? And can you guys give me a price quote including the labor costs?

Oh and can someone explain how the whole sub system work? I need an amplifer correct? how many watts should I get?

I'm going to be putting an Image Dynamics IDQ10 in my ride. I used one before; and I know from experience that it's awesome for rock and metal music, and is pretty good for hiphop too. You only need to give it 200w or so (more if you use the DVC option). Sound quality is unmatched at it's price (around $125-$150). Other subs hit harder, but you won't get better SQ.

Although since you sound new to the whole experience, I would probably recommend buying a sub with built in amp: either an Infinity Basslink II sub (I think it's either 200w or 250w), or a Bazooka 200w amplified tube. I had a Bazooka before and it rocked: for the size and price it was good. But alot of other people have the Basslink (Search in here under that name) and they love it too. You can have any installer put one in for you and the whole shabang should only cost you $400 or less, including installation.

haha im assuming when he said cheap he meant price wise not quality.

i forgot what their called, i can see them in my head though, best buy carries 2 12" subs in a bandpass box with an amp and its got neons around the subs, not too much power but a nice starter kit if your not looking for too much.
 
You're a beginner so I'd go with the self-amplified units. I don't mean that in a bad way either, that's what I started with when I was on a budget and just wanted some supplemental bass. One of those I previously mentioned will certainly meet your needs. Call your local install shops what they would charge. They are not expensive, but out great sounding bass, and don't take up much room. Plus, both of those units are from reputable brands too, (which, I don't know if you care, but that is very important to me).

Both those look pretty good. But I probably would prefer a 1 subwoofer system just because it'll take up less space. But I'm not completely ruling out the 2 subwoofer system.

I really like the 2nd one but its a little bit too expensive right now. The first one is alright but i'm not a big fan of neon or anything flashy like that.

Right now I've got about $200-$250 to spare including installation so what I might do is wait till I get some mroe spare cash.

Also, do those subs above include wires and stuff? Can I just take that package, bring it to Circuit City or wherever and have it installed or are there wires nad other stuff I need?

thats the part where you sit there and watch as the price takes off up and up as they say," well youll need these wires and these connectors, and if you want to be hip on the scene . . . ." thats the painful part. No the subs dont come with that stuff but rest assured CC or BB will outfit you with the "best there is" before they install. I think it maybe like $50 or so max for all the wires and whatnot.
