instructions for 2d gen gauge cluster removal

My electronic speedo is going wacky so I'll need to remove the head and take it to the speedometer repair shop.
Anyone have a step by step how to get all the panels off to get to the cluster box?:lookout:

Remove all the screws that hold the trim on, remove the trim, then the screws holding the cluster. Pull the cluster out a bit to reach behind and disconnect the cables.

Got cluster out. Now how to make it not read double mph?

The local repair shop said $160 minimum IF they could fix it, in two weeks or so.

I called my local pick n pull for a speedometer head and said $50. When I got there the guy handed me the whole CLUSTER and said $20 & Merry Christmas!

I quickly re-installed and it works/looks perfect, and mileage about the same.

Anyone needing sumpin, give me a shout. Now to work on my Other TOYS!

Nice going, I'm just installing the cluster this afternoon on our 1990 4runner. Installed a new Toyota speedo head with the updated fixture to accept the new style speedo cable. New speedo units are about $175, and there are about 4 left in North America now.
I was thinking about going to a pick and pull, but having been in there too many times, I wanted this a one shot deal(ie not wanting to deal with faulty used parts, needed quick turnover).
