Instrument Light

I took delivery of a '07 6cyl Ltd three weeks ago.
I noticed that the insturment light seems to be always on even during daylight hours. My guess is there is a light sensor that turns it on and off. It's hard to tell for sure but it does always seem to be on. Is this normal?
Really enjoying the truck. Thanks.

Yup, cluster is illuminated all the time. Early 2003 owners complained that it was hard to see so mid-2003 Toyota illuminated the cluster full-time.

You can adjust the brightness of the instrument cluster. However, the brightness set for the day (parking lights and/or headlights off) correspond to a preset dimmed mode for night (parking lights and/or headlights on). The two brightness modes cannot be set independently.

The cluster dims when the parking lights and/or headlights are on is just like how the clock would dim to reduce glare and fatigue on your eyes at night.

If you have your headlight switch on 'Auto', the headlights will turn on automatically and it will dim instrument cluster. The sensor is in the lower corner of the driver side windshield on the dash. Either it's the dome or the other one next to it. One is the darkness sensor and the other is for the automatic climate control temp sensor.
