instrument panel lights problem

Hey guys I've got a 1999 4 runner sr5 4x4 3.4l I bought about 2 months ago and absolutely loving every bit of it.. Well just the other day my stock dash lights went out out of nowhere ..so I thought to myself let's hop on the forums and see about putting some white LEDs in there to get rid of the ugly green that was there and I am getting very mixed things about them...so that poses my question ....what in the hell do I order? I see people saying the main dash lights are a #194 ,#74, and #24 so which one do I have? Oh I had already went to the auto store by me and bought replacement bulbs of the #194 because they only cost about 5 bucks just so i could see to drive it at night untill i order the leds i want in there and those do not match the ones in there now they are much bigger so before anyone gets all bent out of shape for me posting another question about them I have done lots of searching on this forum and yotatech and that's what led me to the 3 diff bulb sizes and I am not understanding this crap at all .....the original bulbs in there do not have a lick of writing on them anywhere accept on the housing the bulb goes into so I scraped that green condom off the bulb just to make sure I wasn't loosing my mind ...I'm in need of some help!!!! I only want to replace the 3 bulbs that light the cluster not the 50 other lights there or the HVAC and others ...if I knew how to post pictures I share what they look like amongst sharing my 4runner and my future build on it

this is an issue I ran into in that thread for the 2000 limited the pic that shows the back side of the instrument cluster looks like mine but the bulbs that go in have all the same size housing that the bulb goes in that pic clearly shoes the housing is bigger than the rest ..which is not my case ..that's why I'm having a hard time trying to figure it out and finally posted for help

A little hard to understand what your writing but are you saying your bulb housing (21,22,23 in the picture) are the same as the ones on the lower panel (CEL, Transmission ind lites, Hi beam lite, etc?)

Yes that's what I'm trying to say ....I think I'm just going to buy 3 of #74 and #24 and go from there unless the 194 led is smaller than what I have from the auto store but again thanks everyone for posting so quickly to help even tho this is a huge topic and all over the forum by other ppl ..wouldn't have asked if mine looked like everyone else's pictures

I just had mine out about an hour ago to replace one of LEDs which was flickering of an on. That picture does make the dash light LED sockets look much bigger. Mine looked almost the same size as the others just a little bit bigger and a different color socket. I guess they're cheap enough to get both sizes. The 74s fit a lot of other places (Glove box, key ring, shifter) They are really small though. I would be shocked if they where used in the dash lighting. Make sure to get high powered ones.

I don't have a computer I use my phone......but I uploaded with the little paperclip that was suggested hope it shows up otherwise I gotta go find a computer to use.....this is of the bulb still in the housing ...let me know if I should take my cluster back out and snap some pictures of the back of it for you guys

The first pic is the 194 bulb I had bought ..you can barley see the print on the bulb to confirm it is a 194 ...second pic is of the 194 bulb next to the bulb I pulled out of the green housing.....clearly way bigger ...and the third pic is of the back of the cluster which I will say I was wrong on when I said all the build housings were the same size the 3 that are green are just a tad bigger than all the black ones but still is not a 194

That's what I was thinking I would need ....thank you so much for your help and knowledge on the subject ...I have never had good luck when it comes to cars ..I always find one that is just a little different than everyone else's ....I used to own a 1990 celica gt that was the sane way .....it had work done to it to convert it to a 5 speed and made it very hard to put motor mounts on it but again thank you for the help ...can't wait to get these LEDs put in and finally get rid of that ugly green well not green anymore ...while I had the cluster out I scraped that green condom off and I now have an ugly warm white but its so much better than the green ...I also have another issue with my t4r but I'll start a different thread if I can't find any info on it ...has to do with the 4 wheel drive
