Intake help?

So I joined this site b/c my dad has an '04 4Runner SR5. I wanted to get him an intake to help him on his MPG. Any suggestions as to which would be the best intake would be appreciated! Also I would like to know any other mods you've done that helped increase your mpg. Thanks

My first mod was an AFE cold Air induction intake w/ ProDry filter from AutoAnything.com - $290 w/ free shipping.

Claims Up to 13 extra horsepower and 21ft-lbs of torque over stock intake.

I can feel a difference and it sounds great! I've seen a noticeable but negligible increase in MPG also.

Installation took about an hour but was simple.

What Year/Trim 4Runner do you have???

I think it's the torque coming off a stop or light- just feels it has more balls. Not even punching it just feels stronger and the sound is throatier- like a hollow roar that I never noticed before I put it in. I did it after two of my friends with Toyotas said they were getting about 50 more miles to the tank with a cold air/ intake installed.
 
I had someone tell me that their personal experience with an Intake was pointless. He said that he didn't feel ANY difference in acceleration, and minimal jumps in MPG.

Would you say it's worth $250-$300 for an intake, given the performance you see out of it?

That's been my understanding of intakes. Even for an extra 50-60 miles per gallon you would have to fill the tank 25-30 times just to break even on the cost of the intake vs. money saved in gas. Those are just rough estimates but it seems more of a cosmetic mod than a performance mod to me.

That being said, I still think it makes the engine bay look better and sound more powerfull. I would probably get one if I had some extra duckets lying around.
 
I'm debating getting one but I have 2 problems. My first one is that I'm not sure if it will provide any noticeable power, because it seems like just as many people don't notice any power.

Second, is that I don't know which one to get. K&N seems okay, but that's the one that I have heard the least good things about. The Volant seems better, but I'm not sure if I have the patience to wait a month for it to arrive.

Not much pulling power.. but sound power is amazing! :D

I had a K&N before. If i were to get one again i'd go with AFE,AEM,TRD or Trueflow

I don't think i would ever go with a K&N. I don't know much about the AFE or AEM intakes, but I do know that the Trueflow is only for V6 4Runners. I can't seem to find any TRD intakes for 07 V8's either....

yeah i think you guys only have K&N or Volant as an option.:( Why would you have to wait a month for volant? sorry i haven't been updated on a lot of stuff lol

I like the press that TrueFlow has been getting but I'm not sure about long term reliability on them yet. The foam filter seems to trap a lot more than others but I wonder how much extra air gets to the engine as a result

Because on Jason B's site it says it ships in approx. 2 weeks after placing the order. It was 10-15 days for my lift kit which took a month to get here, so I would expect 1 month to 5 weeks for the intake to arrive. They are built to order.
 
I think that K&N intakes for the 4Runner are not CARB Exempt for models 2003-2008. I haven't done any research on the Volant line.

Not that it really matters...
