Interchangeable alternators.

Ryan - Do you have a 22re or a 3VZE?
If a 3VZE, which GM alternator did you get, CS-144?

3VZE. Im not sure what kind exactly. It's just a 63amp chevy 3 wire. Its just a stock one from a old late 70's pick-up. I figured i can wire it to handle 200amps so once i have the money for a big one it will be already to go. Im getting reagy to start building a 4.3 so i may have to change my set-up

Has anyone tried a smaller pulley on the stock alternator? More rpms on the alt at idle would boost alt amperage. Having trouble finding a good pulley to make an attempt on my spare alt.

Now that is interesting... Especially since we mostly want increased power at idle, for winching and light.
I would still want a bigger alt... Even with a smaller pulley on a stock one, I doubt you'd get more than 45A at idle. Winch at night with some lights and you're there power wise.
Thanks!

I agree as well. We wouldn't see that big of a benefit due to belt life alt life ect, those trade offs.... but this kinda makes those alts that are slightly bigger than our stock ones more viable. At a lower price you can pick up one of these medium alts and throw a small pulley on it instead of shelling huge bucks for a beast alt. :pizza:
