Interest in Custom built 4th gen V8 4.7 Doug Thorley Headers

Having a company start producing is unlikely, especially now is with the limited production numbers (compared to others) and differences between years.

Y'alls best bet is to modify TRD tundra headers. Any competant exhaust shop can do it and you won't regret it. My full exhaust was the best thing I've done to my truck to date, or at least comes in a close second to lift/tires

I'm not 100% sure where you can get the headers. I personally went the custom route, it was a complete headache and is why I wouldn't recommend it. Took a year for my headers to be completed with lots of down time for my truck. My work schedule and the particular shop I chose are mostly at fault for that but still not worth it when you can just modify tundra headers

Talked to the fab guy and we decided modifying Tundra headers is the way to go. Easier to manipulate a pipe then completely start from scratch. So Tundra headers, custom y-pipe without cats it is for me. Can't do it till middle of July though.

Well I found headers for $374 on eBay. They are obx brand which I've never heard of but are not coated. No point in coating until job is finished. He can't give me an accurate price until he sees what he will have to do to make them fit, but he said everything would be less than a grand, header fitment, y-pipe, and move tail pipe. So I'm still looking at up to $1400 for everything. The guy owns the Lovefab here in town and specializes in custom work. People around here call him the Jesse James of the car world. Lol

I will try and get pics of what he had to do to make them fit and give as much info as possible. Like I said, he's busy till middle of July, so going to be a month unfortunately. Will keep updating though.

obx used to be quite famous for cracking quickly... not sure about this application, but if it seems cheap...

From what I've read and seen, header swap on these is a real PITA, so I definitely wouldn't want to do it twice.

Ya I found some made by Gibson but they are coated. $100 more. If I can find some regular SS Gibson's I'm going with them.

Just found these ones, looking like what I'll be getting.
The only reason I don't want them coated is the fab guy is going to cut and bend a little on them to clear everything. If they are coated it will just get tore up. No reason to spend the money on coating until after they are tweaked into place.

Definitely curious to see the cost once they go in to production. Do you know if they are putting cats in or not?

I will definitely keep you guys updated. Troy, the general manager of Doug Thorley, and I, talked for a bit about the headers. He said it will take about 2 weeks to figure out a prototype and mock things up. From there it will take about 6 to 8 weeks until the first production run is done.

I know it is going to take some time but hey, we are finally getting what we hoped for!

I will be dropping my car off on Sunday and getting this show on the road.

+1 on the good news. I either have a manifold gasket leak or a cracked manifold, so I'm going to be pulling these off at some point anyway. Would love to have a header I could swap in, rather than just bolting the stockers back on.
