Would you like the DT headers to have a Highflow catalytic converter?

Can't even express how nice it is to see this thread resurrected.

My 08' V8 is happy also as it has the "jaloppy sound" for the first 5 minutes when I start it

What's the jaloppy sound?

Can't wait to even think about affording these headers haha.

The "jaloppy sound" is the "Pfft, pfft, pfft, pfft" sound you hear when you start your car and drive it at parking lot speeds for the first few minutes after you start the vehicle.

I just had paint correction done - the 4LO actuator is new .. The truck runs like a dream and looks like a million bucks. This is an otherwise perfect marvelous machine and it sounds like a mid 80's Buick Riviera for the first 5 minutes after a cold start. It's embarrasing and I'm excited about a way to fix it other than:

A: Buying an OEM part which will fail again in 65K miles
B: Paying $600[ish] per side for the Magnaflow ones.
C: Buying the Pacesetter headers (while very affordably priced, they do offer the complexity for 2005+ models of having to jump through hoops to convince the engine that nothing is wrong)

I'm very excited to see the pricing also, but early indications seem good. It does look like you'll have the added expense of buying 2 cats on your own and having the fab work done, but hopefully it'll still come in at less than what the Magnaflow ones did because that's the only other option as far as I'm concerned, I'm not giving Toyota money for more faulty parts.

Maybe there'll be an option from Doug Thorley to have the cats included if you live out of state and they are shipping to you, but who knows - CA might be too strict on them to do that. Either way .... i'm excited to see what the outcome is going to be.

Wish mine was only for first five minutes! Mine never stops anymore. Drives me nuts, especially since I have a Gibson cat - back which sounds great.

Status Update:

Just called Doug Thorley today and talked to Mike on the current status of our headers. He said he received all the material to start production on last Friday and they are officially starting today making the headers. He informed me this is a 4 week process to fabricate and ceramic coat the headers so we should expect them in September.

They will be short tube, stainless steel, and ceramic coated headers.

Obviously the first run will not be CARB legal, something only that applies mainly to California.

You can also preorder them from Doug Thorley for $750. Keep in mind these are quality headers and are cheaper and a better option than OEM if need to be replaced.

Feel free to call them at 951-371-1744 option 2.

I will keep you guys updated if I find anything else out but will definitely check back in with them in September.

Bonyfattony:

Thanks for the update!

I'll definitely be giving them a call next month. I'm very interested to see if they can offer a welded-on aftermarket cat for us non-California peeps.

Do you by chance know where the O2 sensor is located in the OEM manifold? Is it between the cat and the collector, in the middle of the cat, or between the cat and the flange?

I have custom for JBA headers that sound and work well, but I would absolutely love long tube headers to help increase the low end torque even more.
If they make long tubes then count me in! As long as they are reasonably priced...

Pretty sure long tube headers are better for higher rpm range, you'd want short tube headers for better low end torque.

Was there any mention of an extra bung for tuning use?

Thinking I might pull the trigger on these.

Anyone know if these WON'T pass emission inspection?

Any CEL issues we'll have to worry about?

What would be the average installation time required/cost for doing headers?

This ticking is just getting worse and worse.

Holy headers Batman! The URD page says "bolt-in" !!!!!!!!! Does that mean they decided to add a cat????

That would be better than fantastic.

Not for $750 they didn't, but it means they bolt to our y-pipe which makes it so much easier! and they're coated too!

So these bolt up to the engine manifold and y pipe location, but don't have cats? Doesn't sound bolt on to me, but requires the addition of welding on cats still. Is that difficult/expensive?

just to clarify, which parts of the stock system does this replace?

on this diagram, are these headers replacing parts 1,2,6 and 7? or just 1,2,6?

are cats provided? or would this erase the cats? isn't that illegal in most places?
