would cracked exhaust manifold qualify for tsb?

how many cases happened of cracked headers?

i vote for smog legal. i'm in los angeles and may be able to loan my 4r for fitment.

Well it turns out, unfortunately I wasn't mistaken and we get screwed up here by Toyota. I realise this looks like I just made it up on Excel, but believe it or not this is what the parts guy printed out for me. Thankfully he is willing to reduce the price by 25% but it will still be over $2000 with taxes. I'm debating on calling a dealership in northern new york to see what their prices are, might be worth it to take a drip down.

EDIT: Just got off the phone with TJ Toyota in Potsdam, NY. They want $806.76 per manifold (says there both the same price...wierd) and $23 for the gaskets so definately worth the hour and half round trip.

Hey Callum, This is a nice site that I use to look at diagrams and get some pricing to see how much my Canadian dealer is messing me vs the price over the Cdn/US border. I send stuff to a freight forwarder warehouse on the new york border, Then when I get a chance I go pick it up.

I've had mine welded twice. Noise is back. Not sure if it can be welded again. That is what Toyota would do if under warranty it seems. Mine was done by a Mr.Muffler place.

If I'm following this thread right, it seems if these headers get made it would only be for 2005-2009 V8.

Yah, but it's always the shipping that ends up killing me. I bought my Volant CAI off ebay from Texas, list price $230 ended up being $310 to my door with shipping and duty charges. But I'm going to look into one of these freight forwarders.

I've got a buddy that ships stuff to a place in Massena so i'll have to get the info from him, cuz we definately get screwed on OEM parts up here. I was thinking of getting them welded, but i'm just gonna bite the bullet and buy new manifolds...I don't want this problem creeping up every year.

And yes unfortunately everything awesome is for 05+ v8s (ie: headers, supercharger)

Not to derail the topic, but how many of you are having issues with your V8 exhaust manifolds and at what mileage? This is the first I have heard of a commonly occurring issue with the V8 manifolds. I have an '07 with the V8 at just under 70k miles with no issues.

Any chance some of you can chime in with how many miles you had before the cracked manifolds surfaced and what part of the country you live in? Premature cracks and failure of exhaust components would not surprise me if you live in the rust belt.

They are waiting for a final word from the Factory (that was last Wednesday) ... I'm getting a bit peed. I'll email them again.

I wonder if they would get the ball rolling if they took orders and perhaps took a small deposit from everyone. My 08' Tacoma Short tube headers were I think around $400. The only thing with shorties is the stock cats have to be cut off the stock manifold and welded onto the new headers. Since these are V8's guessing the price for shorties would be around $5-600? So perhaps a deposit of $100-200 per person, then have the rest billed at time of shipment??

Of course shorties would be the cheapest. If they included cats, that's gonna be a lot more, although still under the 3k price tag of OEM dealer replaced exhaust manifolds. That's all I'm after, a solution that will last the life of the vehicle vs. maybe 60-90k miles which many of the stock manifolds seem to provide.

Hello gentlemen, I have finally been able to talk to the right person. He will be able to get us a rough quote. Apparently the person I was talking with was a 3rd party customer service rep.

I hope to have some new info soon. I really hope that no one has lost interest. I will also see how much of a deposit will be needed to start the production. I'll keep you all posted.

I just installed the Gibson exhaust. I wish it was a bit louder, but it sounds good. Maybe the Doug Thorley Headers will make it the perfect system by adding a bit more volume. I definitely want them when they are available. You can add me to the list if you are still keeping up with that original post. :thumb3:

With my current cracked headers, I'd much rather have better quality ones put on instead of those piss poor stock ones again. Sign me up and let me know if deposits are needed!

I've said it before but I'll say it again just to let you know I'm still interested - Im in if these are legal and can pass emission control tests.
