I'm sure we can find something for ya; and for a 'no pinstriping' trip, I'd be inclined to bring my 06 4Runner - or, that weekend I'll most likely be rollin solo so if we do take a more aggressive trail you can ride with me - my 89 4Runner has no fear of pin striping!
Welcome to the fun badger69 - what kind of 4Runner do you have? interested in coming out with us on the 21st or 22nd?
Okay sounds good! I work on the 21st but I can go on the 22nd as long as I don't have anything pressing coming up (preparing to sell my house).
I have 31" tires and a 2" lift... anything I can do with those specs I will.
I have lots of pinstriping, not too concerned. I just enjoy exploring. I don't care so much about driving over a rock as I do finding new areas and exploring mines.

Do you have a locker or any kind of traction device? I ran my 89 4Runner for years with just a small lift and 31's and it was mostly unstoppable.
That's exactly how I feel - I'd rather be out exploring and finding new and interesting things that going out just to beat on my rig.
I'm up for some of the easier stuff. I'm still pretty green when it comes to four wheeling, and I'm stock (no locker) on street 265/75's for now.
Do any of you east valley people ever go out to Bulldog Canyon? We hunt out there and I've been wanting to go drive around on the trails some more and get farther back there.

I would also be up for some weekend wheeling. I can usually attend when it is planned 2-3 weeks in advance. The trail we choose would dictate which vehicle I bring as well. The FJ is much more capable currently with all the mods. The TRDP, which does extremely well as I found out this past weekend Sedona, is needing a few mods before I run any moderate or greater difficulty trails. I am also planning on being at the Table Mesa Clean Up on March 1st and hope to see a few of you there.

I live in Chandler and I've been to Bulldog a few times but havn't really explored all the side trails, I just stayed on the main one from Bush Highway down to Apache Trail. I'd like to get back in there and do some more exploring. I go to Butcher Jones alot, bypass the first 2 coves because they are generally over ran with jackasses most of the time.
Thats how I feel - depending on the difficulty will dictate which of my rigs I take. The 89 4Runner is my go anywhere, do anything truck and the 06 is my daily driver but its so fun to take off road because its a V8
I'll be at the cleanup too and when its over I'm going to lead a group run, not 100% sure where just yet. I know a few great places along Table Mesa to check out. This weekend I think I want to try Black Canyon City over look to scope it out as a possible run to do after the cleanup. And if that doesn't work for the group who is coming after the cleanup, we can go to Tip Top, Fort Thule and/or China Dam which are all off Table Mesa Rd.
We're looking at doing a run Sunday Feb 22 - most likely Black Canyon City overlook. If you have the 2nd edition Wells book called Guide to Arizona Backroads & 4WD Trails its in there listed as Moderate but I really have no idea what that trail is like. Please let me know if you're interested

I might be down for the 22nd. Do we know if there's any serious pinstriping danger on this particular trail?
I have a center differential lock. Does the job, not really sure how it is different than lockers, but it keeps all my tires moving at the same rate of speed.

I finally remembered to check in the trail book and this is the description of this trail:
Overview: Fun, remote area east of Black Canyon City. Trail heads into Tonto National Forest, then curls west back to Overlook of town. Network of roads south of trail drops down to Moore Gulch, where a road goes under the I-17 and connects to trails in Table Mesa area. Great area for unlicensed vehicles. You can access the trail from KOA Campground, who welcomes OHVers. Ask them to show you how to reach the trail directly from campgrouds.
Moderate: Once you leave pipeline road, trail is narrow and rough whith lots of twists and banked curves. Steep and challenging in places. Steep downhill before cow camp has deep washouts cutting into edge of road. Be careful though this section.
Stats: Length: 15 miles each way. Time: 3-4 hours each way. Allow all day to visit this area.
I have that in my 06 4Runner but havn't really tested it out on the trails. I believe acts the same as a locker. My 89 4Runner has a Detroit locker in the rear which is a traditional locker scenario.

I'm in for the 22nd and I'll likely be at the cleanup on the 1st... My wife is doing the Ragnar race the 20th and 21st, so Saturday would be out. Also running a stock Gen5... But it can handle most moderate trails I think. Definitely not a rock crawler, but I can usually pick a decent enough line through the moguls to not tear out my pumpkin.

Glad you're going to be able to make it to the cleanup!
I was not 100% sure about going out on the 21st or the 22nd but if you can only make it the 22nd, and someone else said they would prefer the 22nd, so the 22nd it is!!
I'll re-read through the trail book and find us something that is suitable for the stockers coming - glad to be able to hang out with you again.
I'll go through the book this weekend and post up some suggestions soon.
