Interest in this Roof Rack?

OK let me try this again.

This is to gauge interest in the design and looks of this Roof Rack. It is not to discuss why you should or should not have a roof rack. Please limit your comments and suggestions to the looks, and possibly pricing. However on pricing you need to remember this is a custom fab shop and not assemply line product that focuses on quality builds instead of volume. I am just happy that we have another shop that is highly interested in developing products for our trucks.

I will update with more pictures once I can leave my truck with him to work out mounts. Then get back from paint and just bolt up some lights.
 
Would he/them be up for altering or making even another product to fit the needs of another type of user. For example, if they made a similar roof rack to a bajarack, a simple, low, functional roof rack, and could price it the same (When I was looking into bajaracks, $467 shipped), then I and probably many others would much rather support a local small fab shop then a larger company. I think it doesn't look bad at all, but the price is pretty steep, more then most would be willing to pay, for something that 99 percent of drivers only use a few times a month if that.

I keep editing...IMO here is my ideal rack
1. mounts to factory locations, HUGE for me. I hate the look of a rack sitting up so high on crossbars.
2. Goes front of rail to back. Loadwarriors are too short, and megawarriors are too long, not to mention they dont meet my #1 requirement.
3. A bottom without huge openings. Surco and others have too much space on the bottom. If I am carrying firewood or...I dont want it falling through and scratching the top of my 4Runner up.
4. Price. IMO for all of this 400 or so seems like a reasonable price to pay.

Sorry for the lengthy post, I have just looked A LOT into racks, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to rant.

Well I can talk to him about that and see if he would be interested. Having been one of the first owners of the Baja Rack and someone that spoke to the owner and helped push them into production for our trucks. I can say that the quality of BajaRack is far above that of the lesser priced Rola and Load Warriors, hence the higher price. I can also tell you after owning the Baja Rack and seeing the quality of work this shop does that is it of the same standard and deserving of the increased cost. It is also larger then the Baja Rack with built in light mounts/ cage which I feel also justifies the additional cost. To add a similar light bar from BajaRack will be a bolt on accessory and around $200.

Since some of you are asking for a version without the light cage and just a low profile air foil I might be able to get him to make that change or offer it as an option.
 
Well Veterans Day I decided to Honor myself by helping make the mounts for the rack.
I put a quick rattle can job on it for some color and put on my Hellas and here is what we get.

Well I have gone through 2 tanks of fuel since adding the roof rack and front bumper. So here is the damage on my mileage: Prior mileage average 16.2 MPGS, Average for the last two tanks 15.7. So that means maybe an .5 mpg loss with the roof rack and my 90lb plate bumper. Not as bad as some of you thought.
 
I like the design of the rack overall. It seems a bit wide to me though. I do like that there is space for the lights. Is there anyway to make them sit a little lower so they fit in the holes better?

Your front bumper is awesome. It is nice to know there is a good fab shop down here.
 
My notes to the fab shop is to narrow by about 3" and to mount the light tabs to the bottom of the tube instead of the top and that will allow the lights to sit down just enough. It was originally designed to fit 4" HIDS and not 6" lights. He is also checking in on the thread and is sketching up a lower profile rack as a few have asked.
 
Looks B/A on ur rig, not to mention that front bumper makes babies cry! Mean lookin!

Still like shots of the bottom cage too.

Man, if that shop was to make that bumper mass produced, some serious bank could be had. I'd buy one. Not sure if I would want the hoops as big but wow. Options for smaller ones or ones like the ARB would be nice.

Rack looks nice, but I want to see the smaller one... I think roof racks just aren't my game considering they're just so pricey! I really just want them for lights anyway... I wouldn't use it more than a few times a year.

COB- see my bumper thread. They are planning on producing this bumper and a few others. Also if you are just looking for a roof mount Light cage give him a call and I am sure he will set you up with something nice.

So far havnt had any noise from the rack. Have driven with the sunroof in the tilted up position a little and also with my windows down. I am very pleased with the rack so far.
 
Hey Pikeman what are the moral requirements to having that "Combat Veteran" sticker in the back? I was in the CZ for 5 months, but was in the Navy :offtopic:
 
Ouch, price is too high. I prefer racks that slope down in front so they're not noisy on the highway, I run my lights on the bumper, so I don't need light mounts up top. Looks very strong though.
