Interior 98Limited

Hi all
I just purchased a 98 Limited. The drive train and engine is in a excellent condition. Unfortunately not the interior. I need some advice on what the best method would be to clean the roof lining. The car spend a lot of time close to the Sahara desert and it has accumulated a lot of dust. The seat covers are cracked etc. Seats and carpets i can sort out here but getting the roof lining clean with out spoiling it with water...happened to me in a Peugeot when the driver tried to clean it with water and soap. Came loose and sagged all over the place. Will appreciate any suggestions. Great site.

I'm not a 100% on this, but the best way might be just to get a new liner. The time spent trying to clean it upside down might not be worth it at the end.

Take it to a car Upholstery shop and talk to them . If that's not satisfying talk to a GOOD auto detail place .

98 Limited Interior

I as well just bought a 98 Limited. Despite the alarm acting up (there is the stock alarm and a after-market alarm lol) everything is fine and in working condition except the interior. I bought the vehicle from a auction for $2,000. The vehicle was forfeited by original owner, I guess he was caught driving without a license 6 times and the 6th time he was in possession of the ganja. Anyways, the carpet was nasty, had spills and odors, headliner is filthy, leather seats have tears and the whole car smells
like cigarette smoke. I had the car washed and carpet shampooed but it had little to no effect in eliminating the odors and stains. After some research I found a site that sells pre-molded carpet for the 4runner

The vinyl trim moulding is in good shape so I dont need to replace it but it definately needs a good scrubbing and odor elimination.

I have now dismantled the entire interior of the car and it is down to the metal and wires. I want to sound-proof the car so I plan on putting in Raamat, Ensolite and a few other materials to help quit down the outside cabin noise. I need to remove the sunroof slider so that I can reupholster it... Anybody know how to without disassembling the entire sunroof assembly, or can anyone direct me to a website that explains how to take the sunroof apart?

I've been sending emails to different salvage yards for new leather seats... anybody have any advice?

Anyways, my advice on the headliner is to replace it. p nut is right the time I spent cleaning it was not even worth it and it really had no effect. I tried to shampoo the headliner and it helped but the contours of the headliner kept me from being able to clean the nooks. If you can do it yourself it would cost about $90. Curious to know what you are doing about the seats?

You could get some new leather seat covers, get a shop to reupholster the seats with leather, or just buy new seats.

I work in West Africa and things is pretty primitive. If you do want Toyota here to do something for you be prepared to pay big bugs. I stripped the car completely washed everything including the carpets. I bought a secondhand carpet for the rear bay cost about $58 dollar. Vacuumed with a wet/dry machine the roof lining. I first used a foam type shampoo where you only brush on the prepared foam. (It feels dry to the touch) I then used the vacuum cleaner and it now looks a lot better. I also replaced the rear left back inside panel. I think someone transported a gearbox in the back and this cracked the inside panel as well as spilling gearbox oil over the carpet. Cost was $110.
I will get a local "leather man" to hand-stitch and cover the seats. They do do beautiful work here if you get the right guy. I will probably use camel leather as the color will match the rest of the interior and it is beautiful the way the people here cure it. I think i will probably pay around $300 in local currency for all the seats.
