I have an 09 runner. What is a good interior bulb that will increase brighness and where can I get em.

you want bright, get the 1.5 x 5 for the domes, they cost more but are well worth it.

Putco LEDs from Xenondepot.

They cost more than the alternative, but you get what you pay for. I have LEDs from both superbrightleds.com and V-LEDs.com, LEDs from both are either flickering or out.

Used Superbrightleds.com for license plate, courtesy, runningboard, etc. flickering and some have gone out completely. Probably had them for a year or two tops.

I have V-LED for tails and domelight in my other car, of the multiple LEDs on replacement bulbs more than three have gone out on the tails and domelight. Bought them just earlier this year. Replacing these with Putco's.

Putco LEDs in the 4Runner.

I have the following from Superbrightleds.com used in the 4Runner's courtesy, running board and license plate lights (and in my other car):
1. Cheap 194 wedge bulbs. I have a few that are flickering, one with few LEDs out, and another that's completely dead out of 12 over two years or so. Don't get these, my friend recommended against them, but I didn't listen. He recommeded this high power 194 wedge. He's been using it in his car for three years or so now with no issues.
2. PCB style 194 wedge, had these for a year and they've been fine. No issues with them, but replaced them because they are a warm white--not enough difference compared to a regular bulb.
3. High power 194 wedge, currently I'm using these, these weren't available at the time I was replacing the cheap bulbs (#1), so I ended up getting #2.

I got the following from V-LEDs.com, as a matter of fact they've failed much faster than Superbrightleds.com LEDs. Got both of these earlier this year for my other car.
Dome light, 3 LEDs have failed.
Taillights, one of them 3 out of 5 LEDs on the face/front is out. The other all five on the face/front and one of the rows are out. IIRC, Fo Sheezy said not to get these. I would recommend against these because the intensity of the brake light isn't much brighter than the parking. Replacing these with Putco LEDs, until then I put the regular filament bulbs back.
I'll post some pics of the V-LEDs.com ones.

My recommendation would be Putco LEDs for the dome and map lights. The remaining lights depending on the socket orientation and arrangement of the LEDs, I would use high power wedge (#3 or the one my friend recommends) or the PCB style wedge (#2).

I retract my previous statement (post). The cheapie Superbrightleds.com LEDs are crappy, but my experience with V-LEDs.com LEDs have been worst.

ive had no problem with any style of the oznium lights, the 1.5x5 super slim panels are a perfect fit & very bright dome replacement. they are 30 bucks a piece tho. i totally agree with uneek on v-leds, they have had a bunch of bad bulbs lately, mostly the 194s.,

It's unbelievable how bright these things are. The nice thing is that they also dim unlike low cost alternatives!

Looks nice and bright Steve. I think if you maped out what each specific interior light needed what LED you may increase sales. I think a lot of people out there have the technical konw how to change the bulp to LED however may not understand the "electrical" lingo. Just a thought. I see your kits for front lights but if they outlined what was need for the dome, doors, map lights etc. in lamin terms for 4th GEN folks you would get more takers. Just a thought....

The Putco LEDs from XenonDepot are vehicle specific and it's sold as a kit. For the 4Runner kit, it's two 194 wedge bulbs for the map lights and two LED boards for dome lights. The Putco LEDs is a direct replacement plug and play kit. It is no different than obtaining a regular replacement light bulb from the auto parts store.

My suggestion to Steve would be maybe create an "additional" kit that consists of four 194 wedge bulbs only. This way, these four additional 194 wedge LEDs can be purchased by those who desire to have their door courtesy lights changed out as well and for Limited owners who may also want to change out their running board lights.

If you take a look at my thread posted above, the dome light LED board configuration can be different for other vehicle applications. I've seen some Putco LED boards that are "L" shaped. The kits are vehicle specific and not completely universal. What I mean is the 194 wedge you can easily take and use on any other car that uses the 194 wedge bulb application. But the dome light depending on the actual housing shape may or may not accept the dome light LED board that's specific to the 4Runner.

How do you change these, does that clear plastic part just pop out, or is it more involved than that?

I want to change all my interior lights, including those in the door

Does anybody know the size of the LED boards from the Putco kit at Xenon Depot? How many LEDs do they have? I can't seem to find pics of the actual product on the Xennondepot website.

I bought a couple of Putco LED replacements from Amazon, but I'm considering getting this and using those LED boards for footwell lighting.

As Uneek posted, the 4 runner kit that we sell comes with 4 LEDs in total. You get 2 194 wedge bulbs to upgrade your Map lights and 2 LED Panels to upgrade the dome lights. The Dome lights provided in the kit are designed to fit into the 4 runner dome light housing so they are size specific. They consist of 12 LEDs and the board is approximately 2.25" x 1.5/8".

If you wanted to upgrade your step/courtesy lights you would need to get more 194 LED bulbs which are sold in pairs here:

Polkmaniac - I know that your vehicle uses the same 194 bulb for the map lights. However, can you please confirm the dimensions of the dome light so that I can tell you whether this kit will work on your vehicle. If the LED panels in this kit are too large we have universal ones that can be used as well. I would just need to know the dimensions of the vehicle's dome lights in order to suggest the appropriate one.

Am I just measiring the dimensions of the plastic cover, do am I taking the bulbs out and measuring those? Also, do I just pop that clear piece off, or is there another way to take that apart?

Will those 194 bulbs work in the doors?

The 194 bulbs will work in the door courtesy lights.
For the dome lights, we would need to know the internal dimensions so that I would know whether the LED panel in the kit will work for you. If it is not the right size I can help you obtain the right one.

I did the same and its 100% better and I couldnt be happier, very clean and bright. I have had a ton of complimentes on it especially the plate and running board lights.

Whoops, missed that part of your website. I thought the bulbs were available as kits only. Now knowing that, I think the configuration of the kit is perfect since additional 194 wedges are available seperately for those who need it. Please ignore my previous post.

I used a finger nail file from a pocket knife or a thin flat screwdriver will do. For the map lights, pry against the edge where the lens pushes in to turn on/off the light. Once you pry it down, pull it down and the back half where it hinges will pop out.

The dome lights, pry along the longer edges, you can see the little tabs/hooks that hold the lens in place. If they're on, turn them off, those bulbs get HOT fast.

The door courtesy lights, pry against them at the narrow edge. The entire housing/assembly should pop out. Once you get the assembly out, pop off the lens cover to get the bulb out.

Here are the Putco LEDs that are in the 4Runner specific kit from XenonDepot. My '04 Camry's maplight assembly is exactly the same as my 4Runner's. However, the dome light has the same physical shape on the outside, but the bulb type is different. I have a V-LED dome light in there now and I can't recommend them, since it's been in there at the beginning of the year and three LEDs have failed.

Map light, the bulb is exactly the same as a regular light.
