Interior Question

Guys, I have several questions... I just traded my 2004 Tacoma for a 1998 T4R SR5 4x4. I noticed looking at some interior photos on various sites that some T4R's that appear to be the same model as mine have what looks like a rear air control on the bottom of the rear of the center console. Was this a factory option? Why does mine not have this?

Also - what package included the rear diff lock? Anybody ever had that added by the stealer after purchase? And why do some have the "4WD" button on the side of the shifter?

rear air was an option, yes. you probably dont have it.

there was no package that included the rear diff lock... some came with it, some did not.

the ones that have a 4wd button on the shifter have a multimode 4wd system. the multimode 4WD system is a full time all wheel drive system... it can be used in regular driving any time. i have this on my 01. it was an option in the limiteds up until the 01 and 02 models when it became standard on all.

Rear diff locks only lasted til the '00 year and were replaced with a less effective where off roading is concerned center diff lock and the '99-'00 models also sat 1" higher than other years.

On the Highlander (Sport) versions you could either get the SP or SX option packages, the SX includes the e-locker.
The ideal version to get is the Limited with the combo of the diff lock and the multi-mode auto with the AWD.
