Some of the 4runners I’ve been looking at are a couple hundred miles away and sales people will be sales people and I don’t trust them. Any other way to tell?
Internet shopping. How to tell if a 4Runner has KDSS without looking underneath?

I tried signing up for this. Got through step one but when I get to the register your VIN it doesn't accept it. Am I missing something?

Obviously, it has to be a Trail and/or TRD Off Road model. Beyond that, just ask the sales person to take a photo of the front sway bar and send it to you. Non-kdss models have a sway bar mounted directly to the frame above the skid plate. KDSS models have a sway bar mounted like the linked post: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/1346776-post2.html

You don't need to sign up to use that. Just drop a vin in there and submit it. I have found There is a glitchy type thing though, sometimes if I put another vin in after cutting out another one it will come back with an error. I just re-load the page then put the different vin in and you'll get the read out. This was the best tool when I was looking around for my new runner by far.

OP, I understand the problem is not that you don't know KDSS when you see it, it's that when browsing sometimes vague internet listings of a vehicle that is 200 miles away, it can be difficult to tell whether it has KDSS, and you don't want to tip your hand to a salesman too early.
If the VIN lookup trick doesn't work, I'd say the MSRP is a good indicator.

I get what your saying and I agree that would work for a new one. But for used I don’t think that will really work.

Have them send a photo of the instrument panel when ignition is turned on. Mine has a yellow KDSS light to show it’s working. You can check odometer mileage at the same time.

I found this to be VERY difficult, especially in Texas where KDSS is so hard to come by. I found the way dealerships listed their specs to be all over the map. On top of this, I had some really bad info from a number of dealerships I asked directly. One salesperson told me that every 4runner on the lot had KDSS. WTF? Exactly ZERO of them did.
I finally resorted to going to cars.com and using KDSS as a custom search term. Eventually one popped up in the middle of nowhere and I bought it via text messages and had them drive it down. It worked out great.

Yeah, the prices are formula driven, so even when looking at more options (3rd row/running boards/all the LE stuff) you can usually pick out installed options from price pretty quickly if you're familiar enough
But don't trust dealer descriptions on their websites

When I was looking for mine, one place in Texas had one and it was in Amarillo and the price was high. I went to Arizona to get mine. Will be rare in Texas. It's a special order for any dealer in Texas. I hear that all of the Gulf states are like that.
Only thing you can do is have them send you a pic of the front. Mine has an RCI skid plate rather than the factory but you should still be able to see it with a factory skid plate. Make them take a pic like this in high res so you can blow it up.

This worked for me. I ran a bunch of VINs through this afternoon and only one turned out to have KDSS. Ended up being 4 Trails without KDSS and one Trail Premium with KDSS.
Doesn't every 2019 TRD Off Road have KDSS? On toyota.com with California zip code one cannot build a non-KDSS 2019 TRD Off Road version. Also, how does toyota.com VIN check list KDSS if it's there?
No. It's a $1750.00 option on TRD OffRoad and TRD OffRoad Premium.
The moonroof is an option, too. But you might find that virtually every ORP in your region has that $630/$850 moonroof installed.
Most I’ve seen do have KDSS. But try finding one with KDSS and no moonroof.
