Introducing myself and a few questions...

Hey there-

Figured I might as well join here since I browse around quite a bit. I bought my first Runner about a month back. I have always loved the 3rd gens due to two of my cousins doing a lot to their's, but I was stuck as with a station wagon as a first car for a few years until it was totaled a few months ago. Finally, I found the perfect runner, a 99 base with 111,xxx miles for a steal of a price IMO. Pretty much perfect condition with the exception that it smells like dog. I've done a few things to it, but nothing major. I installed my new system (new head, tweeters and subs) CB radio, and mounted a fire extinguisher.

Any way, a few questions-

Grill conversion- I have seen a few runners with the FJ grill look, and I love it. I can't seem to find and guides or actual grills on here. How would one go about doing this mod?


Lifting- I would like to do a cheaper, but quality lift to it. I am sure there are some instructions on here that is a guide for dummies.


Plasti Dip- What are your opinions on the product? Specifically on the wheels and chrome trimmings? is there a better alternative?


Clear corner lights- As most, I hate the yellow in the corner head lights. Is there a place to buy clear corners, or is there a DIY mod to it?

Welcome. As the above member said, read the stickies at the top of the page, and they will answer a lot of your questions.

1. It's called the "satoshi mod". There are multiple ways to do it. Look in my build thread for one way to do it.

2. Cheapest way to do a quality lift is sourcing used parts. That's what I've done, and I'm in to it for around $350. If you can find everything for under $600 or so, I'd say you are getting a good deal. I have info in my build thread on that too.

3. Can't help you on plasti dip yet...although I do have a small project lined up for that.

4. Clear corners can be found on eBay. There are a few links out there, just google it. You're looking at around $40 or so for a set of corners and turn signal covers. I've had mine over a year and am still happy with them.

Google is your friend...just type in "3rd gen 4runner _____________" and most of the time you can find what you're looking for. I've found this way useful, as it finds stuff from more than just this site...Yotatech or Toyota120 or TTORA for example. And sometimes its helpful to find older threads that this picks up.

Hello there and welcome.

I strongly suggest you learn how to search this site "the better way" ... see the link on advanced searching that is located in my signature below.

I also suggest you put your truck year, mileage and city in your signature. This will help greatly.

I have done the satoshi grill mod with pictures. It is detailed in the other link which we call a build thread.

Lastly: maintenance always comes before modding :welcome:
