Alright it's coming to the point where I'm about to put some serious money into my 4runner and am wondering if it's worth doing it to a vehicle with high miles.
When I got my 4runner about 3 months ago I couldn't have hoped for a cheap vehicle I liked this much. I had a almost new 07 frontier that I hated from day 1 and really wanted a new Tacoma but with owning a truck I wanted an suv for many reasons. I felt the bed was a waste for me. I ousted after fj cruisers and couldn't decide between it and a new 4runner. Eventually I decided to just go cheap and got a 97 4runner with lift and 195k on it. I loved the fact that it had so many miles I couldn't wait to drive it till it broke. I was fine with it stock and didn't care what broke but now I'm thinking about investing a good bit of money into it and am trying to figure out if it's worth it.
I plan to keep the truck as the only thing I don't like is it's weak engine and how my frontier with bigger engine got better gas mileage and my friends 5.3 chevy sometimes averages higher.. It's not the cost just the number that aggrivates me that I pay more in gas for less power.
Anyways it has no rust on it at all other than exaust. Everything seems to run great. But isit really worth investing almost 4k in this thing? I'm looking at bigger tires which doesn't bother me since I can always put em on my next rig. A new front bumper/rear bumper, a roof rack speakers amps subs and possibly line-x ing the whole thing.
Is it worth doing to a vehicle this old? What's the first thing expensive to usually go? transmission? I have no problem replacing a few big things but if everything begins falling apart at once I might just ditch it.
