iPad integration

Has anyone integrated an ipad to their scion navigation system? I remember the scion nav accepts and aux connector, but I never bothered to use it. Then recently it dawned on me that hooking up the ipad to the head unit might be easier than buying and installing a bluetooth capable hu, plus you can charge the unit while in use.

If anyone has suggestions, I'd like to hear which components you bought as well as how it sounds.

I have a 3g ipad with unlimited data and so it makes sense to stream music from the web over the stereo.

Ok, picking up an iPod auxiliary input cable that fits in the scion navigation 12-pin plug. I believe this is the port for satellite radio.

Also, since the iPad is 5 volts, I'll have to pick up a little adapter for the plug end that will allow for the iPad to charge. This part, similar to the ALPINE KCX-422TR will do the conversion for you. (12 v to 5 v).

It will run me approximately $75 for parts, time and a 6 pack of bud. If I don't report back here, it's because everything is working beautifully.

The stock iPad connection is 30 pins from what I'm reading.

In the end it might end up something like this.

12 - pin cable to voltage adapter to ipad. = Pandora, netflix, you tube, streaming multi-media to my stereo speakers.

Not sure about the Scion integration portion, but where are you planning to mount it? Right now I just sit mine on the seat next to me... :-/

I'm hoping the Toyota PT545-00082 Interface Kit for iPod will work for the iPad.

Maybe I can even get streaming content viewed on the HU too.

If it doesnt work, and your really set on using your ipad, they make a bracket that turns your ipad into your HU.

Its pretty cool and if i had an ipad with 3g, i would be using it all the time in my car. Its a great idea to try and incorporate it into your stereo or just use the whole ipad has your stereo. I wish i could mate my Mac book pro with my ipod touch....bummer

I ordered the wrong 12 pin aux cable again. Luckily I can exchange it for the one that's more narrow. I'll hook up the ipad via simple 3.5mm headphone jack and route the cable through the side glove box.

I hate making mistakes, but this is a learning experiment. I'm becoming a pro at getting to the back of my deck.

I wouldn't want mount my ipad on the dash perse. I use it with a case and will keep it on the passenger seat when in motion.
