iPhone 5 Suddenly Zero Bars, But Has LTE

I have a Verizon iPhone 5 that I should probably get rid of, but have kept it since it worked.

Yesterday it started showing zero bars of service, but yet said that I have LTE/4G. I can't call out or receive phone calls, but I can use mobile data and text no problem. My work phone is an iPhone 7, and it has three bars of service.

What gives?

Settings, general, reset, reset network settings. This feature removes all network settings and reconnects them. If you use your phone as a hot spot the network will be deleted, but that's it. The phone will retain all downloads and settings.

I tried the network reset, but no luck.

I ended up calling Verizon tech support, and surprisingly they had the answer. Under cellular settings, under the roaming settings, CDMA International was checked. As soon as I unchecked it, I had five bars. I have no idea how it got checked in the first place.

My GF is having trouble with calls dropping lately. I will have see if that is the issue. We did the network reset on hers too. Not sure if that worked, she probably has not used hers enough to tell.

I think CDMA is on by default.
