iPhone 5 - Who's in?

I do like HTC a lot because their customer service is second to none and they try to give you updates at reasonable intervals.

I haven't had to deal with the customer service because I haven't had any problems with it. I shattered the screen and called Asurion for my insurance claim ($200) and got my replacement the next day.

Thats fine. What drives me nuts is how Apple launches a new device and we have to deal with pages of android fans bashing it, mostly with anecdotal stories and incorrect info.
I don't understand people going out of their way and spending their time hating on Apple. It comes across more like they are trying to justify their own purchase. I certainly dont spend my time on Samsung forums pointing out everything the iPhone does better.

Let's be real, there are just as many Apple fanboys out there putting down android.

Not sure how long ago it was but I would call and ask them. Whether is an original droid or a brand new galaxy s3 it's $100 to replace. Maybe you can get some cash back, idk. It might be carrier specific pricing though too

It is beyond that. HTC actually does a good job of supporting their handsets AFTER you buy it. Samsung sucks in the worst way in this regard. Basically, Samsung sucks you in with the big screen and big processors...and then abandons you post-sale with rare updates. (Some of their updates seem to take AWAY features rather than fix known problems!) Samsung took away hotspot on my nexus S with one of their "updates." My crappy radios have gotten zero help either from Google or Samsung.

In contrast, HTC provides timely updates and tries to keep their old phones relevant (as much as Google lets them).

For me, HTC provides the best Android service. Motorola makes the best cell reception smartphone. Samsung makes the best hardware.

The problem is that you cannot have all three in one phone or one company. THAT is the downfall of Android for me (and some folks i would imagine). HTC is slowly dying as Samsung outguns them in hardware technology and sales. Motorola is only hanging on via Google but again is outgunned by Samsung hardware and camera quality. Samsung has the big guns (e.g. big processors, big screens) to fight (and sales figures to back up their dominance), but with its ****ty customer service, piss-poor radios (absolutely worst in industry IMO), and non-existent aftersale support, they have pissed more than a few folks off as evidenced by poor customer return business.

When Google bought Moto, i had high hopes...and still do. The ONLY way that i will get back on Android bandwagon is if Google lets Motorola make the future Nexus phones. Samsung has proven repeatedly that they just don't care about radios (LTE, GPS, Wifi, and cell)...nor about software support aftersales.

Don't believe me? Those with Samsung Galaxy S3...see if you guys will get any updates beyond Jellybean. Jellybean is coming to you guys next month, right? If history repeats itself, then Jellybean is your last update for your phone. I am talking about official releases, not 3rd party stuff.

And this is frankly where Apple has exceeded. Apple may not make the biggest screens nor have the biggest processors, BUT they integrate software and hardware to the point that they are class-leading (or nearly so). They provide excellent customer service for the most part. They support their phones well beyond 2 year limit. (BTW, i consider 2 year limit to be critical because this is when most people upgrade their phones.) Their camera is top-notch among smartphones. And recently, their cell reception is spectacular with the external antenna design. (BTW, for those who don't know, the external antenna design is pure genius...the metal ring is both artistic and functional! Yes, iPhone 4 had the initial hiccup with the antenna but that was fixed with the verizon and subsequent version.) This is why Apple has such high customer loyalty and retention rate. (No, i did not care for Steve Job's arrogance...but i respect his vision.) No, it is not that we are "stuck" in their ecosystem because Android has their own ecosystem as well these days, easily rivaling Apple's. It is that Apple smartphones and tablets simply work very well and very reliably. No surprises. No crashes. They work as advertised.

NOTE: i do NOT own a Mac nor iPad. I am a 100% PC user. But, you know what, i get Apple's vision. I understand their way of thinking.

Link: AnandTech - iPhone 5 Memory Size and Speed Revealed: 1GB LPDDR2-1066

"The E7E7 gives us the density of each of the two DRAM die (512MB per die, 1GB total). The final two characters in the part number give us the cycle time/data rate, which in this case is 1066MHz."

So, RAM is now 1 GB (instead of 512 MB for 4S) and speed has increase to 1.06 MHz (vs. 800 MHz for 4S).

I can't wait for the iPhone 5! I have ordered Otterbox Defender for me and Commuter cases for my wife's iPhone.

Thai always brings out the facts, the rest can never handle it!

Ordered my iPhone 5 64GB. Gonna sell my 2 year old iPhone 4 32GB to cover the difference. Easy $250 on craigslist!

If history repeats itself, then Jellybean is your last update for your phone. Even my Nexus S phone (a Google phone mind you) is running into a dead end with Ice Cream Sandwich. We likely won't get Jellybean. And my Nexus S is less than 2 years old. I am talking about official releases, not 3rd party stuff. So, if my Google phone is running into a dead end after 1.5 years, then how long do you think the other non-Google Android phones will get updates?

My sisters iPhone 4S has the worst camera out of apple I have ever seen. Tibia horrid in low light compared to my Vivid. I'm more into cars than tech but if I'm going to use something everyday, its going to be something I enjoy. My friend has the S3 and for me its took thin, and the screen is low quality. Only had it for a week, and the first drop the screen shattered!

Actually, with an iPhone, you can upgrade your iPhone EVERY YEAR. For example, my iPhone 4S is worth $395 if i sell it on Amazon (which is very easy to do). After one year, your ETF (early termination fee) is half since it is pro-rated. So, for Sprint, that is about $150 after one year. You cancel Sprint's contract, pay the ETF. Then, turn around and sign a new 2-year contract with Sprint again...getting the same phone number and pay $200 for a new iPhone (if you like 16 GB).

Just do this every year. The iPhone pays for itself...and more!

Either she (or you) don't know how to use it (e.g. touch to focus) or she has a defective 4S because the 4S camera is still one of the best quality phone camera, even till this day.

Samsung Galaxy S3 got a 1628.

But this is the INTERNATIONAL GS3, which has quad core CPU. GS3 in the USA has dual core, like HTC One. So, as predicted, the ONLY CPUs that are competitive with A6 are the best of the best quad cores. The BIG advantage of A6 here is that it gives quad core-like performance while using much less battery power.

Note that the dual core A6 while being clocked ONLY at 1066 MHz and having only 1GB RAM, it is easily competitive with the best of quad cores. The quad core from Samsung (Exynos) is the latest tech quad core CPU that just came out a few months ago!! The fact that A6 (dual core) is just slightly behind the best quad core is a MAJOR advancement! A dual core that matches (more or less) the latest quad core!! REMEMBER, A6 is only clocked at 1066 Mhz and look how much it blew away the other top dual cores! If Apple had driven the CPU to faster speed to 1400 Mhz or 1500 Mhz (at the expense of battery life!), then it could EASILY beat Exynos quad core from Samsung! For those still on the fence, think about that for one moment. Even though this is the first attempt, Apple just made every chip manufacturer look over their shoulder and take notice!

This does show that Apple is fully capable of competiting with the best in chip design and manufacturing!
