How much do you think iPhones cost? They cost the same as top Android phones. What Android do you have? So, your statement applies to Apple and Android.

Actually, if you're financially limited and need a smartphone, then buying an Android is quite possibly the worst investment you can make! At least, with an iPhone, you get excellent value when you decide to sell it down the road...with an Android, it is basically worthless after 6 months. So, one can argue that you DO have more money than brains for your Droid investment!

If I was financially limited and needed a smartphone, I'd buy a horribly depreciated used Android, and run it on my old cellplan with no data (wi-fi only), just saying.

Maybe give someone else a chance to talk in here Thai, you'll use up all your posts if you're not careful!:cheers:

I think that the iPhone 5 has really put Android community in a bind! In the past, Android has always had better specs on paper, including Mhz speed and LTE/4G. So, this was an easy argument for Android folks to make. But, with the iPhone 5, everything changed. It comes with LTE and a bigger screen...plus a processor chip that kills all Android has to offer, bar none. Basically, there isn't a thing now that Android crowd can claim to be better...other than actual screen real estate and even then the quality of the screen is far inferior to iPhone 5. This makes Android crowd very uncomfortable.

But note that even the iPhone 4S matches that of the Galaxy S3 in browser performance...so, even the best of the best from Android can't beat yesterday's iPhone in browser performance and resale value.

True. But a flip phone is even cheaper! Or get iPhone 3GS which is still being supported by Apple.

I use a Garmin for most of my GPS needs, but won't be upgrading my Iphone4 to IOS6 until this get some of this stuff sorted out. The maps thing is a complete fail IMO.

To keep this thread information (you are talking about iOS6) relevant, I installed iO6 on my 3GS on Friday. It is the oldest iPhone that can run it. Anyway, I was expecting it to be very slow and apps to be even more slower. Turns out, I was wrong. Everything is faster. For example, the facebook app on the iOS4 was getting very slow and annoying. After installing the app, FB is noticeably faster. Gas Buddy app is also a lot faster. The maps is a complete letdown. The Google embedded app was tons better. Oh well.........

I'm happy as this is convincing me to stay with my 3GS a while longer.

I agree with some of that. JB sure does allow more customization. The ONE thing that i do NOT agree with is browser. Safari has gotten Chrome beat. Why? Sure, the Chrome allows more customization, but speed is what counts. How fast a page loads is more important than features. And when it comes to speed, an iPhone 4S (not 5) runs just as good (if not better) than Chrome. And it has already been proven that iPhone 5 Safari kills Chrome on speed.

Features are more plentiful on Android for sure. I agree. BTW, Google Now is also a battery killer...no thanks. I don't need big brother looking on me every minute...and killing my battery.

Google Maps is really where i truly care that Apple is behind. But, hopefully, Apple will catch up. The rest of the features i don't need...and my brother's GN rarely uses those features. :shrug:

BTW, Koz, do you have Jellybean yet on your GS3?? I heard that Polland GS3's are finally getting JB today! Rejoice, you may get it next month!

One more important "feature" of iPhones is that my iPhone 5 will be guaranteed to get future updates well beyond 15-18 months period. Hell, as noted above, iPhone 3GS is on iOS 6...and running fine.

Koz, do you think that your GS3 will get past 4.1 update? :shrug: Based on history of Android, Jellybean may be the last official update that you will ever get! Your phone will NOT be supported past 15-18 month period (from time of intro, not time when you bought the phone).

Note...JellyBean (4.1) became available in July of this year. Koz, who has the latest Android top-of-the-line phone (Galaxy S3), is still waiting for JB...and likely won't get it till October or later! So, despite having the best Android phone, he will likely be 3 months past due for an update!!

The Galaxy Nexus VERIZON (CDMA) is only now getting JB within the next few days...and this is a "Google" phone...2 months past due. (GN GSM got JB a while back.) Now, this gives people an idea of how slow (and fragmented) Android updates are.

The ONLY Android phone that i will buy is a Google Nexus BUT on GSM (ATT or TMo or prepaid). Otherwise, your phone will be stuck in limbo with update cycle and will not be supported before your contract expires.

"DisplayMate found that the Galaxy S III display had a brightness that was “about half of the iPhone 5 due to power limits from the lower power efficiency of OLEDs” and a color gamut that “leads to distorted and exaggerated colors… which adds a Green color caste to many images.”

DisplayMate’s advice to Samsung is to keep refining OLED technology and to consider using a smaller display in the future to avoid power consumption issues that have hurt display quality in the Galaxy S III.

“It [iPhone 5] is the best smartphone display we have seen to date,” Dr. Raymond Soneira, DisplayMate’s president, said in the report.

“The display on the iPhone 5 is a significant improvement over the display on the iPhone 4,” said Soneira in the report. “Apple has uncharacteristically understated how much better the display is on the iPhone 5."

Another article summarized nicely: compared with the screen on Samsung’s Galaxy S III, the iPhone 5′s display is much more accurate at displaying color; is much brighter; reflects less ambient light, making it easier to read outside; and consumes significantly less power, according to the report. It also comes out of the box needing almost no calibration to display images and colors accurately.

This all may be breaking news to Koz, but well-known by most smartphone folks. I listed all of this on my first response to Koz many pages ago (page 4).

My only problem with Lifeproof is that it cover the camera hole with another glass piece. In addition, their camera hole is rather small. Apparently, the iPhone cameras need lost of open space to take advantage of camera light sensor. I understand the need to do it (for waterproofing), but i fear that it will harm picture quality. Anyone with one on prior iPhones can talk about this?? Can you still hear the calls well?? Is the sound from the earpiece OK?

Almost everyone I work with has switched to Lifeproof and have no complaints such as audio clarity etc. I never even thought about effecting the camera light sensor. I am ordering a lifeproof for my 4 and I can report back on that.

I do know white iPhone have problems with certain otterboxes interfering with the proximity sensor on the front of the phone, I think the lifeproof could have the same problem with small opening in the front.

Thanks...please report back! I like Lifeproof because it is actually thinner than Otterbox (at least the 4S version of it). Just concern about the speakers and camera.

When the S3 display is set on auto it is dim. Once you set it on manual, it is plenty bright. As far as saturation this has been addressed in JB. Funny, Apple increased saturation in i06/i5. One of reasons I went with the S3 is because of its brilliant 4.8" HD super AMOLED display. Sorry 4" is too small!
