LOL me thinks you are stepping in a mountain of cow poop. I would not expect it to work properly until Toyota releases an update.
Just FYI When I bought my truck, sept. of last year, it worked perfectly with my iPhone5 & iOS6. iOS7 came out like two weeks later. I updated, nothing worked the same, it wasn't totally crippled, just some nagging connection issues. Entune came out with a "speedy"
update in January that fixed all the issues I had adopted with my new iOS "upgrade".

No problem on my end. Just clicked the "add phone" it selected phone and music and works great.
Maybe delete all existing phones and let it reload.

It is good to hear that this is working less painfully that you thought it would have, particularly with older model trucks. 
I was waiting to upgrade my phone, simply because of the typical PITA that always ensues. It would be great if such issues are finally a thing of the past.

As someone that has had a multitude of android devices since the OG moto droid while simultaneously having iOS devices, that statement is just not true. Not saying that iOS devices don't have problems but there are way too many forks of android to make a blanket statement like that. I personally have had issues with bluetooth stacks on android devices while friends did not with the exact same phone. They were lucky that AT&T released an update while Verizon never got around to pushing it.
Back on topic, I've been running iOS 8 on a 5 for about a month without any issues.
You are absolutely correct. Android and Toyota had a weird incompatibility that made some apps work ok over BT while others did not. My Galaxy Note 3 and 2010 SR5 had this issue. The stock music app worked over BT, but GPS, Pandora, Audible, HBO Go, Netflix, etc... Did not. If you started a track playing through the stock music app and then, while music was playing, played content through one of the other apps things started working properly until the next time you reconnected your phone. A google search turned up a lot of people with the identical issue.
I never had a problem with any of my other Android phones, and my Note 3 works fine with my 2014 LE. Something about that combination just didn't jibe.

Iphone 6+ replaced my htc one this week.
Phone, SMS text messages confirmed working.
Bluetooth audio, havent tested.
Email messages: not working

2012 sr5, standard audio system.
iPhone 6+ and ios8 and 8.0.2 and music comes through fine but Google maps nav, Siri, and phone calls do not.
My next attempt to fix is to reset phone network settings and delete audio player profile from car. Essentially starting over. I've never attempted to "add a phone" to my stereo system, only add an audio player. Might give the phone thing a try.

This happened to my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in my 2010 SR5. The stock music app worked but no other audio came through over BT. I thought it was strictly an Android problem. I'm surprised to see it happen with iOS.

just bought an iphone 6 plus because toyota says its compatible with my 2014 4runner phone works but no messages in or out , has anyone solved this yet.

Do not forget when pairing a new phone, there are settings within the bluetooth App on the headunit you need to set when parked and connected. You also need to go into the iPhone > Bluetooth > info icon next to Toyota Entune > Select notifications to the ON setting.
This is also provided that you have checked the appropriate boxes within the bluetooth setup, and phone settings on the Headunit.
