iPhone sync help

Does anyone have information about the syncing procedures for an iPhone to the JBL system? I understand the bluetooth syncs very well, but has anyone figured out how to transfer the phonebook over to the vehicle's system? I had no luck trying to sync a Motorolla RAZR last year and had to enter the numbers manually. Just trying to avoid this step.

I am a bit confused at what you are trying to do, do you want to set up the iPhone for voice-dialing via the bluetooth? If so I know that the iPhone doesn't have voice dialing, if that isn't what you want can you please clarify what you ware trying to do.

No mainstream att phone other than the palm's have the capability to push the entire phonebook over bluetooth.

i found out one thing (actually my wife did), whenever her iphone running low batt, as soon as she plug in the car charger, they will not paired!

tried 4 times. only way to get it works again is to turn off BT on iphone, turn it back on, re-search for device, re-pair again.

Treo's have also been known to do this.

when running on really low batt, they will turn off extra devices such as BT and then its just a mess



This is why i use a "dumb" phone. Smartphones are just too much headache for what they are...

Thanks for all the replies. The iPhone DOES work with the voice dialing, no problem. It actually set up quicker and easier than my Motorola RAZR. It also works fine and dandy with it plugged into the charger, which is the way I use it. Everything works just like it should. The only downside is the contacts from the phone book must be input manually since the iPhone is made to sync with iTunes. I figured out another way around it, I still have my old RAZR and paired it with the car and then downloaded the phone book from that phone. Worked fine and then I just had to input the missing numbers or the ones that had been updated.

What you can't do with the iPhone is have the iPod feature work while the phone is hooked up at the same time. Or at least, I haven't figured out how to do it yet. Has anyone tried to run a cord from the iPhone into the AUX jack in the center console AND use the phone? I don't see how you could change the tracks without picking up the iPhone and doing it by hand. It would be great if they could get that working together.

But for now, I'm a happy camper. My iPhone works in the 4Runner while being charged at the same time. Love that voice dialing feature.

Treo's have also been known to do this.

Which version Treo do you have? I have a 755p, while BT shuts itself off automatically at times. But once I turn BT back on, it connects everytime. No need reset the phone or initiate the pairing process. Have you tried upgrading to the latest firmware on your Treo?

I dont use treos, i own a company that does a lot of work with bluetooth. The above has been just one of many treo issues..

I have an iPhone as well, I am almost certain voice dialing isn't standard so you can say into the bluetooth headset "call and then say a name". Is yours jail-broken and thats how you do the voice dialing.

I think you're missing the point. Yes, the iPhone does not have voice activation, but that doesn't matter with the 4Runner because the JBL system DOES have voice activation and so IT is what receives the command and then sends the phone number to the iPhone for dialing. A bit of semantics, but it all works together just fine and dandy. And no, I don't have any kind of hacked iPhone, just the standard run-of-the-mill variety.
