iPod BlitzSafe input installed

Sorry if this has been asked/answered already, but I am at work and can't read about this in detail yet on this site or on Blitz's site.

Hypothetically you get one installed into your vehicle; is the device engineered to work universally with any auxilary device: Ipod, XM, CD Player, MP3, etc.?
 
Does anyone know if Blitzsafe has an input that will work with the Camry Nav sold by OEMValue?

I have an XM unit that I play through a wireless fm modulator. Good but not great.

The input has a mini earphone jack at the end. So you should be able to plug it into anything.
 
Well both PIE and BlitzSafe say they work with the in-dash 6 disc changer. I called LogJam electronics and they don't know for sure because they don't have a Toyota headunit to test with and no feedback from people that bought the units.

They are both cheaper than any place I've seen:

Blitsafe from LogJam

and

PIE from LogJam

I use a PIE adapter in my Dodge and it works great with my XM or Minidisc player.

It looks like the PIE adapter explicitly says it works with the current rear audio option and you can still use your wheel controls. The price seems right to me as well, I think I'm getting that one. Just got to figure out how to get into the dash and put it in place and where to mount my XM.

This Blitzsafe as cool as it sounds is clearly not this popular. I went to their website to get a list of stores in my area that I can get it, and installed. Granted I tried two, and one said they don't deal with it, and the other said if I come over on a weekday so they can contact Blitzsafe, get the right part, and then wait two weeks after that for it to arrive, then set a date to install.

This leads me to believe there is one or two problems with this.
A. It does not have a good history
B. They are not marketing their product well, and since the lack of awareness, stores are not bothering investing money putting it on their shelves.
 
Has anyone tried either the Blitzsafe or PIE with the JBL 6 disc indash yet?

I callled PIE and they didn't fill me with confidence that it'd work...

Blitz Safe is out and PIE is now in.

Since PIE has a new aux in model that keeps the rear headphones, I have made the switch. So, you can now have it all!!!!:awais:

For those of you considering installing the aux in for satellite radio, iPod, etal, you will need a RCA to mini cable. When I had the Blitz Safe I used a 1 meter cable. It was just barely long enough. This time I had a 7 foot cable installed. Now I have enough cable to connect the Toyota JBL radio to whatever other source I want.

Guess I'll have to do a search for PIE and track down the cheapest vendor...

Assuming you are installing PIE yourself, is it a simple plug this in here type thing, or is it more involved?

If you are not, are you buying PIE, and then taking it to car stereo specialists, or buying it from them plus having it installed.

Could you give us the pros/cons of PIE vs. Blitzsafe? It seems that the PIE is less expensive, and has the Y-connector but the Blitzsafe seems like a smaller unit, not the big converter, is this true?

Also, where/how did you mount the PIE coverter box?

I paid Best Buy to install the aux in connectors. They are a simple plug-in to the back of the radio. I watched the guys did the work, but did not participate.

The box for either product is quite small and sits behind the radio. In essence they are the same.

The PIE device allows the use of the rear seat headphones because of the Y dual connector.

They both function the same. I plug the mini headphone jack into my iPod and listen to the music thru the JBL radio. The "disc" button is pushed a second time to allow the use of the iPod. The aux in connector fools the radio into assuming the aux in is a CD changer.

Listen. For less $$ go with the PIE. Or you can buy my old BlitzSafe from me.
 
I would go PIE today over the Blitzsafe, IF it works with the JBL in-dash 6CD changer, which is what I have...

Since no one ever rides in my back seat, I won't upgrade from my Blitzsafe to the PIE... Not worth it to me to reconnect the rear seat controls...

As for the install, I did the install myself, using the pics from the thread on installing nav systems for reference... It's a snap, and I wouldn't hestitate to pull the dash apart again, it's that easy...
 
The difference between Blitz Safe and PIE

I have now spent time with both the Blitz Safe and PIE aux-in units. The use of each is identical as they each have RCA inputs. Each have a small box that holds the electronics. There are 2 differences though:

1) The volume level to the JBL head unit is higher with the PIE. Don't know why, just is quite a bit higher. Less line loss I would guess. My iPod volume setting works just fine at 3/4 with the PIE, whereas the Blitx Safe required full volume and an even higher setting on the head unit.

2) Sure is nice to be able to keep the use of the rear headphones with the PIE.

I would have to agree with RL's observation about line loss with the BlitzSafe, my Dell DJ15 requires the same settings he saw with his iPod...

Looks like PIE is the way to go...
 
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet, but I've used this for months with my iPod and it works great if you don't want to get anything installed.
