iPod BlitzSafe input installed

Maybe this has been covered, but does the PIE work with the non-JBL head unit. How would i find out if it has changer controls? I have an i-river iHP 120 that i used to use an in-line fm modulator in my rodeo, but would really like to use something more compatible with the deck. Thanks for any help.

Cool. Just ordered my PIE after a lousy experience with a cheap FM transmitter, and I am trusting y'all that it will work on my 4th Gen with the JBL in-dash 6-CD changer.
The information here should be especially helpful...gonna try to save the 50 bucks and put it in myself. I'll post the results.

Couldn't wait. Tore into the dash today, anticipating the PIE tomorrow or (gulp) Friday. Saturday we're off to the Grand Canyon, and my wife will not be pleased if I'm working on the truck all day while I'm supposed to be packing and whatnot.
To my pleasant surprise, it's not super-hard to get to this stage. An installation guide at http://techinfo.toyota.com was well worth the $10 daily subscription. When I put 'er back together I'll post the order in which all the stuff has to be taken apart.
By the way, the ball on the right is a RAM Mount for my GPS, a Garmin GPSmap 76S. Since I had everything apart, I took the opportunity to tap a 12V line and pass power directly through the mount hardware, so the GPS power cord doesn't have to snake across the console and plug into the lighter socket. Click the RAM pic link in my sig to see the GPS mounted.
There's a ton of stuff that has to come out to get at the stereo, but it's not a killer if you're careful.

Ahh that looks familiar! I've had to do it 3 times now.
Make sure you test the PIE out while the car is still apart. I tested mine, worked, put the dash back together, then it didn't work.. Had to rip it out... returned it for another and tore the dash apart again. This one seems to have a problem too. Every once and a while, the music stops, I look up and the CHANGER-CONTROL has been aborted, so it starts loading the CD. It won't self correct until I turn off the car... Keep your receipt...

Does anyone know if this will work with a stock navigation unit on a 2004? Is there even an open spot where you can plug this into the stock navigation unit, because I thought I remember somewhere that it was possible to have a 6 disc changer with navi. I could just be halucinating again though

I'll be opening up the dash a few times myself: my PIE's train was delayed, and tomorrow we're off to the Grand Canyon. At least I got my GPS powered properly--no more cord from the lighter socket draping across to the GPS mount.
PMac: the PIE/BlitzSafe solution (if it works
) will sound better than a transmitter, modulator, or casette adapter. It's a CD quality line input that uses the CD changer input.

I installed my PIE adapter today. I was gonna wait until i got my new head unit but the adapter was delivered and i could not resist getting it installed. Its actually not too bad to take everything apart to get to the head unit. Without the trip to the store to get a longer RCA cable i would say the project only took an hour or so. Which is good because i know that i will be pulling it all out here in another week or so.
So once it was all installed i was testing it out in the garage and it did the same thing it did to ZonaT4R. It aborted to the regular CD player and did not go back until the key was turned off and back on. It hasn't happened while driving around at all yet so I will keep my fingers crossed that it was a fluke one-time thing.

I've 'tolerated' the problem at this point, just because it sounds SOOOOO much better than my Sirius' FM modulator. I've driven 200 miles and not had the problem, or not had the problem for days. Other times, it happens just a few minutes down the road on a daily basis.....
I am wondering if it a problem with the PIE or with the factory HU. I assume the PIE but does anyone know of any TSB's etc regarding the radio/cd-changer control? :awais:

I used to have a Jensen in-line fm modulator in my rodeo that worked great. As long as the volume was up all the way on the mp3 player it sounded really good, not like those POS wireless ones that sound like radio stations with bad reception. Hopefully i wont have to go back to it, but it is an option if I have a big problem with the PIE. But I am getting ahead of myself since it has only been installed for about 4 hours and I only drove for like 10 minutes. In about a week I will see how it does with the Scion HU...

You can use the AUX-Box from PAC. You will need the adaptor cable available at the Toytoa dealer to adapt theold big plug to the new small one. I have a Aux-Pod wired into my navigation system and it works great. The Aux-Box/Pod is the only aux in adaptor I could get to work out of Soundgate, PIE and Peripheral.

I drove to Reno last weekend and had the PIE adapter cut out on me about 20 minutes into the drive on the way there and on the way back. It never seems to last more then about 20 minutes, sometimes only 5 or so. I was not about to pull over so I could turn off the car and get it to work again. Luckily I still had my cds with me.
Has anyone had the same problem with the blitzsafe adapter? Does anyone know if this is an adapter problem or a head unit problem? Has anyone gotten it work flawlessly all the time? Anyhow, I will probably be returning it soon because I simply will not put up with this.
