Here she is in her stock glory, running boards and all.

He sleeps in the truck when the weather and I allow.

The 4runner is more or less capable as is for what I do, but I am hoping to gradually expand her abilities. I would prefer her to be more capable than I'll ever require as I travel remote and alone quite often.

Right now she is partial daily driver (shares it with my other truck) and partial overnight camper for when I'm travelling and mostly dog kennel for whenever I bring the dog along for the ride.

The first thing I wanted to do was make the truck more comfortable when camping as well as provide a bit of peace of mind. I am paranoid about killing batteries which leads me to idle or worry excessively.

So.... here is my first mod :)
<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/KTaJNOzG5i-t5eXjkjf2P9TseUxsUCUE96knVTKCgvs?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_MJDBJXuWo8A/Tbycq7FVS2I/AAAAAAAACRw/rLn_g1X-Bz8/s800/DSC02685.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/112883606064985547477/DualBatteries?authkey=Gv1sRgCJSh052a9PPSgAE&feat=embedwebsite">Dual Batteries</a></td></tr></table>

I paid to have it done, so the next time I take the batteries out I'll get more shots of how it's all put together. There is a plate welded to the fender that supports everything, the mount for batteries and isolator is bolted to the plate and the battery crossbar bolts into the mount.

I then did some interior wiring
<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/0O8Lb_DcnuKwE4vc404_I0d7MpBn3Qh4aQvDFSrPjXU?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_MJDBJXuWo8A/Tbydo6Qc8lI/AAAAAAAACSo/WkanltsZuV8/s800/DSC02701.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/112883606064985547477/4Runner?authkey=Gv1sRgCLOk8LeI3-mu6gE&feat=embedwebsite">4Runner</a></td></tr></table>
Look closely and you'll notice the head unit is on and the key is not in the ignition. Headunit is wired to the 2nd battery so I'm not concerned about leaving it on and draining the battery. I have an on-off-on switch so I can turn the radio on, turn it off, or turn it on with the key.

Got a CB, need an antenna
<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/tBSnCPI77FDJFA5l1rEtHkd7MpBn3Qh4aQvDFSrPjXU?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_MJDBJXuWo8A/Tbydqb83rDI/AAAAAAAACS4/bDNhKkA0d-E/s800/DSC02712.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/112883606064985547477/4Runner?authkey=Gv1sRgCLOk8LeI3-mu6gE&feat=embedwebsite">4Runner</a></td></tr></table>

It currently has the following in it full time:
Hi-lift jack (with a lift mate so I can lift tires without bumpers or sliders)
Hi-lift recovery kit (includes all extensions to turn hi-lift into a winch)
25 feet of chain
30 foot snatch strap
10 foot tree saver
2 shackles
booster cables
12 volt air compressor
shovel
Tool kit
first aid kit
flash light
and probably some other stuff

Future mods:
?? watt inverter (was originally going to go all out and get a 1000 watt pure sine but have since realized I don't think I could ever use it fully, will probably just hardwire a 400 - 600 watt inverter)
Rear sleeping platform with cargo storage
Off road rear bumper to replace current rusty one
Sliders
Off road front bumper & electric winch
Suspension will need to be replaced at some point, may result in 265/75/16's

I keep thinking about installing a computer, it's completely unneeded and would cost way more than necessary and would be an endless source of troubleshooting... but it would be pretty kick ass. I have several computer consulting jobs so maybe I can pretend I need it for work... :)

This is a work in progress and will be a long time before it's finished.

* new alternator failed, luckily I was actually driving by my mechanic when it happened. Alternator will be replaced (under warranty) but it will take a few days to get it in. Got a ride home from the mechanic, that helped.

2011-05-16
Alternator is fixed, had to get a new regulator and fix some wiring on the harness to ensure the CS-144 charged correctly
