Actually, The GX is the more expensive, but younger brother of the 4Runner...



I think that the lexus gx470 is the land cruiser son.
It has been out for many year in forein countries

The 4Runner is the cheaper brother of the Lexus GX470. I think they are even built side by side. The LX470 is definitely the more expensive brother of the Land Cruiser. In 1996, Lexus released the LX450, which was the exact same thing as the Land Cruiser. I think the only difference was power leather seats and a wood trim. Then the LX470 took over the LX450 and the Land Cruiser happened to be re-designed to have the same shape as the new LX470. I think this took place in 1998 or 1999. The Land Cruiser Prado was introduced by Toyota to fill the market niche below the expensive Land Cruiser.

The 2nd gen N130 4Runner/Hilux Surf and the LC77/78 Prado share the same platform. The 3rd gen N185 4Runner/Hilux Surf and the LC95 Prado share the same platform. The 4th gen N215 4Runner/Hilux Surf share the same platform with the LC120 Prado.

The GX470 is actually a LC120 Prado with the Lexus badge and luxury amenities.

The LX450 is actually a LC80 with the Lexus badge and luxury amenities.

The LX470 is actually a LC100 withe Lexus badge and luxury amenities. Notice that the LX470 has different set of headlamps which are the same as those of the LC100 Cygnus in Japan.

That is correct. My parents were thinking of purchasing either a GX470 or the LX470 and that was one of the things they wanted on the truck. They are friendly with one salesman from Lexus, and he told them that Lexus will not put those type of lights on such high vehicles. He said that is because they feel it is a safety hazard to smaller sedans. The only SUV that they will put it on is the RX330. Doesn't the GX470 have some sort of special bulb that makes it brighter than a standard halogen bulb? I think there is a special name for the bulb in the GX.

I have the Jan 05 issue of Landcruiser magazine (from Japan) and the cover shot clearly shows a LC Cygnus w/ HID's.

If I have learned anything Toyota/Lexus is a little slow, they usually watch other do something, wait for it to become popular then they go out and add it to their vehicles.

When priced out a 4 Runner vs 470 -- 4 Runner was $46,000.

It can get pricey too. Discount are about the same. 3-5K range

you can get your headlights retrofit and get a hid conversion kit and u'll be set if you want the oem look. But if not and just want the brightness then get a philips hid conversion kit. www.xenondepot.com

As far as i have known.....the gx never had oem hid.
