Is 6% under MSRP a good price on a 2011 4runner?

I've seen a lot of posts on price relative to invoice, but given the config I can't seem to get the same invoice on KBB, Edmund or truecar. I can see they are offering a discount of ~ 5.7% off the MSRP (ie ~ a $36K offer vs ~ $38K MSRP), but I'm not sure how this relates to the invoice, thus if it's a good deal or not. I know from reading other posts that getting a few hundred to $500 under invoice is achievable and a good deal, so I'd like some feedback please.

One thing I've learned is that if you want a 3rd row (a must-have for me and my family), you have no choice but to get the sunroof. This is irritating since we don't "value" the sunroof - I feel Toyota is forcing $800 on us. Sure the sunroof is cool and all, but I'd rather spend $800 on other stuff (ie reverse cameras for safety, DVD, etc). Thx for any constructive feedback on the pricing!

Check out cars.overstock.com.

thx - the overstock site seems to leverage the truecar.com site, and also does not provide the invoice details. Also the "target price" is WAY higher than what I'm being offered by multiple dealers via the internet, so not much credibility there.

Does anyone have any recommendations on which DVD system and reverse camera to go with after market? We'd prefer headrest DVDs so the kids can watch separate shows on long trips. maybe I should start a new thread on that one....thx

If the OEM solution isn't more expensive than aftermarket, that is the route I'd go. It is an available accessory on the 2011s.

Just ask the dealer for the invoice price

I have been successful the last couple of times I have bought a new car just by asking the dealer for the invoice price. Then I cut my deal using the number he gave me and I told him I wanted to see the invoice when delivered.
When I bought my Volvo, they showed me the invoice before I completed the final paperwork. My T4R was on the lot and the dealer showed me the invoice before I made the final deal. The salesperson also let me check Edmunds. com right on his desktop.
By the way I paid $400 over invoice plus I asked them to provide the chrome exhaust tip and the rear cargo net into the deal.
I feel good with my deal especially since I have seen all the other deals others have made on here.

The dealer will hand you the invoice price sheet without any trouble. That invoice price will include TDI, buy back etc and should be roughly the same at Edmunds "TMV"; Edmunds "invoice" price doesn't include some fees (i.e., TDI and buy back) and is therefore somewhat unrealistic while the TMV is a good not-to-exceed target. As I see it, Edmunds TMV is really the invoice price - i.e., the price the dealer paid (minus volume discounts and other unquantifiables). If your dealer isn't allowing you to get anywhere near invoice on the deal, invoke Costco price program (mandates $300 over invoice on the TE and $700 over invoice on SR5 and Limited in my area...but they will sell 'em at invoice anyway if you push and push). If you are doing a special order, configure with Edmunds TMV and tell them you'll pay TMV and not a penny more.

Buying 2011 4Runner this weekend

HI
First post here and looking for an advice.

I got approved for a loan at a credit union for 2.89 APR at 54 months or 3.99% APR for more than 54 months, I think the dealer can't beat these rates.

I went to the dealer and test drove the 2011 SR5 V6 no 3 row seats (dont' needed).
I told them since the beggining that I was not buying that day, they put pressure but I was not ready, this was this same week.

The sales manager lowered the offer 3 times coming down to $29,514 plus all the fees, taxes, etc the final figure is $31,967.
The sales manager handed me the figures with the Dealer invoice price ($27.299) saying that they don't have anything to hide.
I do not have any trade but the check for the total amount.

How low can I ask for this 4 Runner.

Thanks

I appreciate any input on this.

Planning to buy tomorrow Sunday or Monday which is the end of the month

Tell them to show you an invoice and that you'll pay $500 under that.... A big dealer, or even a small dealer that has had a slow month should take that deal.... Where are you located?

I'm located in Clearwater, FL

The sales manager gave me the bill of sale.

So I bought the 4runner SR5 2 hours ago for $29,300, I got leather, mats and cargo mat for $400. No 3rd row sunroof or anything like it. Just the power seats and 120 v outlet.

This $29,300 is not including fees but I compared all 6 dealers and all of them had the same fees and taxes.

If this looks good for you I did this:

First thing is to buy at the end of the month, last day preferable.

Second research for tips of how to buy a new car, how to negotiate with dealers.

I visited my closest dealer, test drove the car saying that i was not buying that day, they insisted to sign a deal but no, I was set not to buy that day.

They started asking "how much you want to pay a month?". just say the amount you want pay as this will be something to compare with.

That same night I bought my credit score, I found it was very good so I was prepared for shopping for a loan somewhere else than the dealer.

The next day I goggled Credit unions in my city and start calling asking for rates, the best I found was 2.8% and got pre approved with a check in hand (the dealer was giving me around 5%.

I went to carwoo.com and registered there.

I got 5 different car dealers offering prices but still my local was the second best price.

No just relying on carwoo I goggled more dealers and called then asking for the specific car with the specific options I was looking for. I told them that I was calling around 6 dealers to check who was willing to give me a good number over the phone. They tried to persuade me to go and see the car but I told them that I have test drove the car already.
# out of 6 gave me almost MSRP or $1000 lower than MSRP and when I told them the offers I got the were saying that that was not possible.

At the end the best numbers were at the dealer 20-25 miles away so I told my local dealer to come down to that price and even lower asking them for extra mats and cargo mat and leather and I"d buy the car at the end of the day, it was 5:30 PM already. He agreed

After the sales guy filled out about 3 forms y asked me for my social for finance which I did not needed so he passed.

After another 20 minutes another guy came asking me for the rate I got the loan and he said that the dealer always try to beat that rate.

At the end they just lowered it from 2.8 % to 2.79 %, I checked and nobody was lending less than 2.8 %

And that's it.

Did I get a good deal?
